Hi
I was browsing around and found this "deal" on the Tiger Direct web site. Has anyone bought from Tiger Direct and how was the service? The rebate on the following "bundle" is enticing!!
Motherboard and cpu bundle
All thoughts and comments are welcome!!!
Thanks

Generaly they are more expensive than others, my neighbor bought a cpu/motherboard bundle from them and It was a Piece of Sh*t motherboard made by a no name company that is now out of buisness. Don't do it.

Something is wrong with that!! AMD doesn't make a S939 3400+. The 3400+ is S754.

I tend to agree. I have a friend that swears by them. But, he is paying stupid prices for old hardware.

Well, most of the flames that T-D gets are well-deserved, but I have to admit, I ordered one of those Chieftec full-tower ATX cases that was on some sort of clearance or something for $30 from a thread in HotDeals, and so far so good.

There are OEM 3400+ S939's, just not any retail ones.

That doesn't make any sense.
2.4 GHz S754 = 3400+
2.2 GHz S939 = 3500+

Why would it matter if it was OEM or Retail?

I'm not saying your wrong, I am now just confused.

I just ordered some stuff off tiger direct...only because they had a rebate. I much rather buy off Newegg than them.

They arent that popular probably because of these reasons: (Based on my transaction)

1. Hard to update your account, probably have to do it by phone, unlike newegg, just update it online.

2. Their website went down yesterday night....maybe it was conicidence..I sure would like to hope so

3. Typos and stuff on their product descriptions.

4. They charge up on cheap stuff with an expensive delivery....like 2x as much compared to newegg..unfortunately I had to get from tiger direct cause nobody else had that parts.

But...its my 1st order.

The 939 3400+ is a weird OEM chip that is 2.2GHz dual channel, like the 3500+, but with 800 HT instead of 1000. It's also only available as a Newcastle.

I got into an argument about that on this very BB. I told the guy his processor didn't exist.

Tiger has earned a reputation for dealing in a lot of gray market stuff. I have, on occasion gotten things from them, but nothing complex, and it has worked out.

I didn't have any difficulties when I bought my Logitech Z-680s from them. I would've bought them from NewEgg but they were out of stock there.

They suck when it comes to rebates, took 6 months of fighting to get a rebate from them.

I have never bho8ught from Tigerdirect as they barely have any good hardware. I would much ratyher buy from newegg. I also have a friend who buys just about all his stuyff from TD and all he does is complain when it takes forevert for the rebates to come in.

I've bought from tigerdirect a few times, and their not bad, but newegg is definetly better. I don't recomend that you buy alot from them though. I got an oem cpu which stopped working and a powersupply which also stopped working, although both items were replaced.

I would have done the same thing. I had no idea AMD ever made these, nor can I even guess why they would have.

I was also a bit confused when a friend told me about it. I remember hearing about the 3400 when the 3200 and 3000 released on s939, but have not seen anything on it since.

Reminds me of the K5-90-S Socket5 CPUs that I saw once, or maybe that was an AMD 486 DX4-90, something really odd, that only made sense if it was running on a 30Mhz FSB instead of a 33Mhz one. Must've been some wierdo OEM part, maybe a way to dump some slightly-underperforming CPUs that were binned that way and started to pile up. Either that, or they were completely re-marked fakes, one of the two.

TigerDirect is bad news. They only lead to problems for you. Do not purchase from them no matter how good the deal looks.

HI
Thanks for the replies.
I think for now I'll stay away from Tiger Direct. The price looks good with the $100 rebate. BUT!!!
No business is going to be perfect. So for my money I think I'll go to Newegg or a few other vendors listed on the cpu/motherboard and other item reviews.
Thanks
