Just in case anyone is interested, The Circuit City in Eatontown, NJ has the blank 25GB disks in stock. I don't remember the details, but I can find out if anyone wants to know.

I remember paying $800+ for a 2x Pinnacle Micro burner back in like 1998, and CD's were $10 each. So, we are already ~15000 times cheaper ($10/650MB CD ~= 15000x $22/25GB).

I'm still waiting on cheap DL DVD's

well, I think it's like everyone is saying, it's really great to see BluRay media, but it's gonna be expensive for the first year or two till the technology starts getting mass produced and prices drop. We saw this with CDs, then DVDs. A BluRay burner hasn't even been launched yet, has it? The double layer discs are gonna be great. 50gigs a piece? That'll make for a quick backup job.

sony = riaa+mpaa!! all that evil in one company rootkit ftl

How is this any different then HD-DVD? No seriously, all the movie studio's are backing one of the other or BOTH. I would get the one with the best performance/highest capacity for in a computer. I personnally am thinking data backup. To me that means Blu-Ray. HD-DVD disks are only 15GB single sided. These are 25GB...

Never gonna happen. Wait for these next formats to go down in price.

This whole thing is pretty stupid if you ask me. I mean I'm glad tech is progressing of course but the way they try to push BR because it has greater capacity or new fangled copy protection (which I'm sure will be cracked in a year or two) when it's gonna cost more than HDDVD because of the inability to use the existing infrastucture and we'd have to sell our souls to Sony. I mean how much space do we need on a disc to fit an HD movie on it anyway? 30gigs should be plenty. And as for PC backups I've been getting along fine with externals and DVDs. As for the predictions about how fast the price will drop, well I don't think it will drop as fast as CDs or DVDs because of the lack of new features for the average consumer. I remember getting my first CD and not really being too impressed with the improved sound quality at first. I was however ecstatic about not having to FF and RW a damn tape (the reason I bought the player). Same w/ DVDs. It was only after I became used to the quality of the new products I couldn't go back. I know a lot of people that felt the same way. So I'm not sure of course, but I don't see a major portion of the populous rushing out to buy these things and driving the price down as fast as it happened w/ CDs and DVDs IMHO. I still see 'flash' memory as the future, albeit distant. So I'd go with the cheaper HDDVD and to hell w/ Sony.

Not in markets yet, but there is a BD-RE DL which offers 50GB.
