I can tell you from personal experience that as a visiting adult, if you just walk in the school halls unescorted and you are challenged by a student as hall monitor and you dont comply, then you can get your ass thrown in the slammer. And that was back in the late 60's.

The subject clock toter was told to knock it off with the "clock show" and he wouldnt "engage". That's begging for trouble.

[Police can, do & will arrest you under false accusation (eg, your were speeding even when you arent) just because they dont like something about you or your situation. (It's called detaining. You can then go negotiate your issue in court.)]

The little shit knew it looked like a bomb. That was whole point of it.

fucking EXACTLY what he was up to, "my clock" my ass, he probably found one on these on Ebay or at a garage sale and was looking for the largest LED display he could find, then purposely mounts the display facing outward in a small briefcase with cables left dangling all over the place to look as suspicious as possible and now the 'outrage" over arresting a 14yr old with his home-made clock. That fucking little bag of snot couldn't invent a toothpick but he's a pro at playing the "stereotyping" card with "oh, it was so horrible being treated like this" like he was violently tazed and taken into custody. Why ANYONE can't see through his bullshit story and obvious motives is beyond me. Here's a pic of the jumbo LED display that he mounted facing outwards in the briefcase,

Why do I keep reading on the news that this kid built a clock?

Because they stand with Ahmed. Do you know why they stand with Ahmed? Ratings my dear boy. Ratings.

Anything negative about this 14 year old fraud is going to hurt ratings. Even though they know it, they won't say it. Also there isn't enough evidence to prove intent. So while the kid may or may not have committed a hoax on purpose for ratings/attention/free stuff which he got, the fact is you can't prove he isn't just an innocent victim.

Is it even his fault that all this happened though? Think about who is really responsible here. This kid doesn't decide how everyone else reacts to what he did. Who does? The media, Microsoft's, Facebook and Twitter's marketing departments for fattening their bottom line by exploiting racial tensions.

Yeah I dont think the kid is a hero just because guilty white liberals believe he was maligned. But he'd not a demon either. He just made a huge boo-boo and now its become a national incident.

I wish people paid this much fucking attention to what the White House and the NSA are doing every god damn day.

How on Earth, can you be so rude, about this ABSOLUTE GENIUS of a kid.

He has invented the worlds first, I think you call it, klok ?

He is so CLEVER, he is going to be invited to MIT and personally meet the President of the US of A.

(1)...It's not as if you could assemble something like that, from old bits from the 1980s, in a matter of 20 seconds or so ?

(2)...We currently have ABSOLUTELY NO WAY, of measuring 20 seconds or so, because kloks (is that what you call it ?). Have not been publicly invented yet.

End of sarcasm.

Jesus Christ I want to puke, this tweet from Obama, “Cool clock, Ahmed. Want to bring it to the White House? We should inspire more kids like you to like science. It’s what makes America great,” tweeted Obama.

Yea, we should inspire more kids to take circuit boards out of their plastic case and mount them in a briefcase so it looks like a bomb. Kid "invented" NOTHING. Shame of it is there are probably some really smart 14yr old's out there and all these morons are buying into this scam this asshole did for $$. Dollars for donuts his parents probably helped him just do he could get arrested and they hire a lawyer and profit.

So what!!!

The foundation of this tread was the fact that a 14 yo Muslim kid got arrested for bringing in what seemly was just a clock.

You posted a video of a guy who gives a rant of how it was a clock/radio etc... Who cares.

It seems, since this whole fiasco looked stupid. Now people are spending time attacking what he's made etc... v.s. getting down to the issue.

The issue is that he played the media, social media, and you like a fiddle.

He took something to school that looked dangerous to the layperson (don't bother arguing against that...just don't). He showed it to teachers. School officials thought it looked like a hoax bomb. To the layperson, it looks exactly like an IED. To someone who recognizes the components, it looks like a hoax bomb made from a clock. PERIOD.

He acted evasive when he was questioned about it. You expect school officials and police to ignore that?

NOPE,

It didn't look like a bomb. But a bunch of ignorant teachers/police decided to treat it as it. As a matter of fact, this questions what is suspicious.

I take the rear off my cell phone and pull a couple of the boards out??? Is that now a bomb???

You're still running with that? Seriously. Fuck this bullshit self delusion in the interest of social justice.

A pressure cooker can be a bomb or a hoax bomb.

If a kid brings it to school and is evasive when questioned, what do you do?

An IED (or a hoax bomb) can look like almost anything.

Look at it from a different angle - if a 14y/o kid with a clock wired up is able to play the school and media this badly, what does that say about our collective attitudes and reactions? Regardless of the kid's intent, this situation shows how absolutely ridiculous the existing policies and procedures are, and the absolute ignorance of common sense.

The cops didn't make this statement until all the shit blew over. Which makes me think would they have made the same statement, if it was actually a BOMB!

My thinking is they made this statement because they were looking pretty fucking stupid. This at least made then look stupid instead of "pretty fucking stupid".

Two different circumstances. Which is based on the article I posted!

You have to be kidding. They made the statement from the start. They suspected it was a hoax bomb. Did they evacuate the school or send in the remote-operated vehicle to take it outside and detonate? No? They do that with hoax bombs too, you know?

Oh...but "they over-reacted."

I don't necessarily 100% agree that this was a fake story done by parents/kid etc... This kid and his parents are getting a lot of pitty from the public. Lots of people are using him as an example of how racism/discrimination played a part in the decisions made that day. Then you have another side of people that are essentially pulling apart this kids "project/invention" and calling him a fraud. This is the way this country has became now.

On another note, when I was a young kid (and I believe I mentioned this before). I would bring shit like this to school. I remember taking apart a little hand held vac, taking the motor out and having wires going directly to a RC car battery pack! I told people it was a personal fan. I was in 5th grade and that was way hell before 9/11....

At that time I thought I had invented something LOL!!!!

Well that's waaaay more than this kid did.

You plug-in his "invention" while touching the metal case and you might have 120V AC running through your body.

Not sure what you're saying.

The facts are the cops made a statement "We knew it was never a bomb", well after this blew over. By that time he was getting contacts from the Pres, Facebook, twitter etc...

It was damage control (if you understand this). The cops made this statement to look "at least a little better".

Well, lets say it was a BOMB, then the cops are never going to make such a statement!!!

Wow. You really ignored this from the start. It has been called a "possible hoax bomb" from the very start.

FAAAAHK your selective digestion of information.

Then they should have never went as far as arresting him, etc...

But they did, did they!!!

So that's were the ball dropped. It would have been a much diff story if they had never did shit, and left him alone!

Yup. Suspected hoax bomb. Kid acting evasive when questioned.

Do nothing.

You have to ask the right questions and the police didnt. Only ignorant people would jump to conclusions without asking the right questions to get the right answers.

The police asked the right questions. His answers were evasive and, quite possibly, lies like this one: "I built it. It's my invention."

Yes and going back to the defintion?

What is a hoax. I take the rear cover off my cell phone and take some boards out!!!

Hell my phone breaks and some boards fall out...

The gun pop-tart kid was never arrested, he was suspended.

Big difference.

Also big difference in race of both kids, I would like to see if Ahmed was White and was named Joe...

How would we see this play out then, we would never know!!!

Oh, I loooove this. It's another point of delusion. If it was a white kid, doing the same thing and acting the same way, it would have turned out the same. Quite possibly MUCH WORSE (evacuate and call bomb squad).

Would you build the same thing and take it to the White House? Don't do that.

What's a bomb to you may not be a bomb to another person. By their definition there have been a lot of shit that could be a bomb. I bought a whole MB into work a few years ago. That could be a bomb. Hell, it was in my bag and went through the metal detector within a federal building.

Again, if they are stupid enough to take that as a bomb, mission accomplished.
If they ask what the motherboard is, you explain and don't be evasive.

"What is this?"
"It's my invention. I built it."
"What does it do?"
"It's a clock."
"For what? What does it do?"
"Why did you build it? What does it do?"
"It's a clock."
"Why did you bring it into the school [federal building]?"
"It's a clock."

there is a component of race here!
Perhaps race-baiting. You seem to be contradicting yourself here. You seriously think a white kid could take that to school, make false claims about it, act evasively when questioned, and not have the same outcome or worse? You really think that?

5th grade vs. 9th grade
Actually made something vs. didn't make jack
Didn't have any reason to think it looked threatening vs. knew it looked threatening and did it anyway

Sorry, but you did WAY more, WAY sooner, and did so without the concern about what it might look like.

I expect every techie to know that a 14yo highschooler who's obviously less than 1yr away from qualifying for a driver's license would not think this is an "invention."

If it turns out to be a hoax, "Cool clock, Ahmed" should be our response any time we see people falling for trolls, groupthink, and future bandwagons. Gotta make those gullible people self-conscious about their lack of critical thinking so that the world will be a better place.

It's not science to put something in a different case. It's not even engineering. A million PC modders have done that. I'd encourage the kid to continue being creative and learn more, but a scientist he ain't.
