The English teacher did what they thought was right. Then the police invistigated. The kid said it was a clock. wich the police confirmed was NOT a bomb. They even said it looked like a dismantled clock.
At that point they should have ended it. No bomb found. he never said it was a bomb and always told them it was a clock.
Where this goes into the twilight zone and everyone has problems with is that they arrested him and suspended him. That shouldn't have happened.
Oh and they are still thinking of charging him. though that won't happen now that its in the national news.
Why ?

no, they were compeltely moronic and tossed any shred of common sense out the window. the kid told them it was a clock. hell, in the time all of this transpired, the kid could have showed them the changing of the minutes!

This kid brought in what most people would consider a "craft box" like my wife has in a closet with some circuit boards and wires and such. There's a leap of stupidity to automatically assume that a metallic briefcase/craft box is automatically a bomb.

- to evacuate the premises to protect students,
- to contain or isolate the device,
- to call civilian or military bomb squad experts,
- to have firefighters on stand-by.
The only glaring evidence is that an attempt was made to give a kid a criminal record.
