Someone did something like this when I was in high school, it looked similar to a bomb as well, and guess what, the police were called to check it out, this was also back in 1996 or 1997.

The foundation of this tread was the fact that a 14 yo Muslim kid got arrested for bringing in what seemly was just a clock.

Perhaps this was after I had already disassembled my own NES many times, repaired shorts in the power cord many times, and replaced rubber pads in my NES controllers with a repair kit -- but I don't recall ever disassembling my friends' toys.

(In my opinion) If they knew what they were doing, they would NOT be trying to sue the Police and School. Apart from the fact that the actions of the Police and School were perfectly reasonable. They could well force the hand of those and other parties, to go for FRAUD charges and stuff like that.
