When it came to interviewing politicians, he gave the toughest as well as most fair. I give him a lot of credit for that, and we certainly need more of that these days.

What can you say? And its Friday the 13th too?
I met him after the Iowa caucus walking in the sky walk at 6:45 am
the Friday after caucus. He looked exactly like he does on tv.
I was walking the sky walks for exercise in the cold winter months,
with a friend. This short chubby guy was walking towards us and broke into a big smile. As he passed I realized who he was and said to my friend ?do you know who that was??, he said no, and I said you just passed someone very famous. Tim Russert.
He wasn?t the news junkie that I am, so he had to think who Tim Russert was.

Being the Friday morning after the caucus, I figured Tim had just done his NBC Today show thing, and was checking out of the Marriott hotel on his way to the next primary state.

If I had not been so shocked to run into him, I might have tried to have a few words.

There was no one else in the sky walks that early, Tim was alone clutching two travel bags. When he broke out in a big smile as he approached us, I now think he must have thought we would recognize him. But I was too stunned that we ran into him that way.

I liked Russert. He was an old skool working mans liberal unlike the ones who forge documents, release state secrets, or get found in parks naked.

I was watching the NBC stuff on Russert when I turned over to fox to see if they were covering it at all. Seems there is some guest host chick on oreilly; oh boy what a dog that thing is. It was so bad I couldn't even stay long enough to get her name :disgust:

I hope it's not a cliche to say that Tim seemed like a member of the family to me (at least on Sundays -- I've been watching him for the past 12 years or so). He just seemed so jovial, while at the same time sticking to the message and grilling politicians to get the truth. And he always had to get the little blurb in during the last few seconds to say "Go Bills" with that wide grin on his face.

And I'm sad to say it, but I've missed church (or at least got to church late on Sundays) on more than a few occassions because I was sitting on the edge of my bed watching Tim and his guests. For the times that I choose church over Russert, I have both the audio and video podcasts on my iPod.

He will truly be missed. I'm a liberal democrat at heart, so I often take solace in the republican carpet bombing laid down by Keith Olbermann on weeknights (as noted by my sig), but there's just something about Tim that kept making me come back for more.

His ability to cut through bullshit while at the same time staying party neutral is something that we all should respect.

Well, to be honest I've never heard of the dude... till now... Then when I saw his pic ... Yeah I think I've seen him around but, I guess you would know who he was if you owned a TV.

Sad day indeed. He will be missed, I don't think there is another in the media that can compare to him. He just seemed so down to earth.

Wow, I'll miss his commentary on Sunday mornings. He was a real tough cookie when it came to journalistic standards.

He wrote a book about his dad awhile back, but it seemed like his dad was still alive at the time. Did he outlive his dad or did his dad pass away first?

That's the worst. IDK if I feel worse for his father or his son. I don't think I could handle burying my boy.

Life is short. Fam friend just died 2wks after retirement. Heart as well.
Enjoy what you have to the fullest as you never know when it will be gone.
