Time for another project: What's involved with installing a sprinkler system in the lawn?

I guess I would need to install a timer somewhere, and somehow tap into the water system without springing a big leak, requiring an emergency call to a maintenance crew. Then it's simply putting the sprinklers in and laying the small pipes in the lawn.

How much would it cost? It sounds like fun, and I'd really like one.

Head to your local home depot. They have an entire side of an aisle dedicated to sprinkler systems.

You are going to have to find some cheap manual labor as well to dig those trenches.

screw sprinklers, make a castle-style water trench!!!
Then you can pimp it out with nice drop bridge and everything

Is your yard flat?

Oh dear god, someone please stop him!

Don't listen to her, this is a prime opportunity to A. buy more tools, and B. use rented gas consuming objects of power.

My parents had one installed last summer by a professional company. The total for labor and the system itself was something like $4k. They are quite happy with the result. Be careful though, and if you install it yourself make sure to plan out the spigot locations VERY carefully, as it'd be a HUGE waste of money to have two spigots covering the same area.

I'm still waiting for said project to be completed! I won't promise it will be this weekend, because I've lied already about that, but I will say that all tiles have been laid and all grouting done. I just am going to do a little touching up on the grout first and maybe knock out a few badly done tiles around one of the sockets; then I'm finished and will send pics

that's key.

also, map out ahead your zones as well as your coverage. You have to make sure you don't overwater or underwater your areas.

Laying and connecting the pipe is easy. Connecting to the main water line and installing the electrical and cellunoids is a little more difficult.

In all, it should be a pretty inexpensive project if you do all the work yourself.

Make sure you call for locates for all of your underground services first, before you even plan out your setup. If something is running right through the place in your lawn/flowerbeds that you wanted to set a sprinkler or lay pipe, you will want to know right away so you can work around it. When you are all ready to get started, rent a trencher so you can get the digging done very fast.

Well besdies finishing the tiles for good I am going to be setting some cable lines up around the house a bit and then I will need another project, which will be either destroying my yard and/or powerlines, water main, etc. or putting a fence in my backyard. I'm a little weary of this sprinkler thing given that the potential for catastrophic damage is significant. Maybe I'll do the fencing first Keep eyes peeled for a "how do I fence"

I will look into thise sprinkling idea more though.

I have so many ideas but not enough $ to follow them through with. I know it takes time but I want them done now!

I think there's a trencher that exists that will trench the pipe right into the ground with little or no disruption to your lawn.
