Honestly, any Democratic candidate that would have beat Trump this year was a shoo-in for Time Person Of The Year. They wanted "Not Trump" on the cover this year, and they got it.

Personally, I would have picked Fauci instead... nobody knew who he was until 2020, and now he's a household name.

I'm still thinking that Fauci should have been their pick. Coronavirus was far and away the lead news story of 2020, even the election coverage trailed it in comparison. Fauci was the public face of the Coronavirus response in the US.

I'm not particualrly a fan of either that publication nor the, really rather silly, 'MotY' concept. It's not quite as bad as the Nobel Peace Prize (because unlike that even sillier award it doesn't technically claim to be about virtue, merely impact) but it's still pretty meaningless (and like most awards, more about drawing attention to the awarder than the awardee).
