She's jealous for your attention. Find some games that she can be involved in.

mine hated Postal 2, and it seems FPS style using keyboard & mouse simultaneously is beyond most women. Similarly, the basics of flying are out of the window. I think mariokart is the only game I've ever seen that women can play well, and that's because it's designed for 5 year olds to use it!!

kamikaze27, is it your cousin moving in with you?

In any case, buy her a wii and she will change her mind.

Gaming is a very valid hobby/interest, and the amount of time you say you spend gaming isn't excessive from my view. You have nothing to apologize or feel childish about.

That said, I'm surprised that you haven't reacted strongly to a comment like, "Games are for children." Firstly, inform your rather annoying girlfriend that the average game player is 33 years old. Secondly, gaming is no less for children than watching TV, shopping for the hell of it or reading magazines. A lot more critical thought goes into gaming as a result of it being a necessarily interactive process.

If she keeps this up, you need to have a talk with her and warn her off of getting on your nerves because it will have long term consequences. If she responds with, "I can't believe you'd pick games over me," calmly inform her that it's not games you're picking over her, it's you asserting your freedom to do whatever the fsck you want to do with your free time. If she can't deal with that, she knows where the door is.

I was expecting this to be a "OMG, why does my GF get mad when I play WoW for 60h/wk?" thread. But it's actually valid.

Some people watch TV to relax, others play video games. And as defDC said:

"I could be out drinking with the guys, spending money and getting into who-knows-what kind of trouble. Or sitting right at home."

Edit - Wait, this is the OMG MY COUSIN IS HOT guy. Maybe your girlfriend is jealous of you camming with your relatives. Or your cousin is your girlfriend. :Q

Mine is ok with me playing games. She understands its an entertainment tool and it helps relieve stress.

That, and she likes watching tv so we can usually sit next to each other and comment on whatever is on the other's screen.

I agree, gaming is not childish at all. Just another way to pass the time.

I'd rather play a game sometimes than watch some lame ass show.

Plus look at all the games that are based on books and other media. Tell this chick to get a clue, it's not 1983 anymore. More than just nerds and kids play games. In fact, to the non-gamers, I say you're missing out on good entertainment. n00bs.

Remember early in the game when you had to sit at your computer and feed the stinkin chocobo once every hour or so.....6-7 times...so 6-7hours straight....just to get a stinkin chocobo license so you can ride them across the world?...yea....) that I played for like 6-7 hours straight.

Anyways, I didn't give in to her complaints, and explained to her that this is what I do for fun, from since forever. She usually watches TV/movies while I play games (lucky for me, she's a huge TV/movie person). And I guess she finally broke down, and is willing to try playing some games with me. So I'm upgrading her laptop so we can play Guild Wars together .

And then you can get married in game and live happily ever after

My wife enjoys watching me play games that are too difficult/scary for her. Although Call of Cthulhu did creep her the fsck out.

Seriously, that is what I did. I got her into WoW and she loves it. My biggest problem is that she doesn't have a computer so she is always wanting to use mine. Backfire FTW.

You took the words right out of my mouth there...I work my ass of every day to make sure we live comfortably and keep up with the Joneses. I just remind them that there are plenty of things that they do that annoys the hell out of me, I just choose to accept it as part of who they are and keep quiet about it.....

Unless they truly get on my nerves, then I can play "tit-for-tat" with the best of them...

If I want to be left alone playing games, I just play something creepy.

I don't know about "till the cows come home", but yes, and some will play with you

He plays games, we play games together, I play nerdy girly games.... it all works out. I've got a few girl friends who are into WoW and everything, too.

I didn't realize how few girls know about games until I was in a class with my fellow future teachers and our TA started asking questions about different kinds of games. "Wow, you mean there are games that you can play online with other people?" I felt really nerdy then.

I have solved this problem over the past few holiday seasons ...

#1 - Bought girlfriend a TIVO for xmas. She has these spanish novelas that she tivos and they air weekdays while she's at work, and she tivos about 4-5 of them.

#2 - Just bought her a laptop this pas Xmas. Now she has no excuse to use my computer when I need to do somethiong on it.

Granted I don't game on PC at all, only console, if I want to hop on xbox live w/some friends I will just be like "ok go watch a few novelas and we'll watch a movie in 30 minutes".

2 hours later, I go into the room and she's still on her computer watching shows and is fine with that. Little did she know the Tivo and Laptop were gifts to benefit ME

EDIT: Oh and I live w/my GF now. When we didn't live together, when we would hang out I would hardly play games, because I could do that when she was gone. Sometimes though I would leave her house a little early if I knew I wanted to get gaming sesions in though, or I'd tell her to come over a lil later if I wanted to game.

OP, it is time to choose to play computer games less and to grow up a bit. Seriously, games vs. your SO (this shouldn't even be a hard choice). I am not saying completely get rid of playing computer games, but if your SO wants a little more time together (since you two are moving in I expect that is the case) or she wants you more motivated about life, I don't think it should be an issue.

BTW, how many hours per week do you put in to playing computer games? If it is more than 4-5 hours per week, I would say that that is quite a lot of time to be putting in to playing games and not going out. 4-5 hours is already a lot of time.

You could always point her to studies that show the average gamer is over the age of 20.

But seriously, you shouldn't be playing videogames when your girlfriend is over unless it's something she can enjoy as well.
