Its that time of year again where party functions that require more than just the casual jeans and polo shirt will do. Its time to suit up! I own just one suit made by Ralph Lauren and its pretty decent but I've owned it for a good ~5 years now. I'm looking for another suit or two on the Macy's website but RL seems to be more on the expensive side compared to everyone else.

There are other brands like Michael Kors, Alfani, etc., that are less expensive but I'm wondering if its because the fabric is cheaper and the quality isn't up to par or is it the name brand premium.

I bought a grey Ben Sherman suit a year or so ago and really liked it for the price. Unfortunately I tried it on a few weeks ago and it is way too big now; apparently I was fatter when I bought it since the pants won't even stay up. Still a nice suit though.

I think a combination of all of those things.. lack of quality in the fabric, the construction (stitching), the fit. Most malls carry the cheaper lines of the label.

Honestly, if you just wanna wear it to parties and you're not the type to wear it to work everyday - I would just spring for the cheapest suit possible and get it altered so you get that proper fit. That's the most important quality to a suit, imo.

If you are willing to spend for a little quality, go to Mens WearHouse. Decent prices compared to a good suit a Macy, etc.

But usually you get 2 for 1. $400-500 (full set OTD)

J.A. Banks will usually get you 3 for 1 but you are paying a higher price. ~$700-800.

the alfani suit, they sew the arm holds so low that if you raise your hands for a handshake, you look like frankenstein.

what is your budget for the suit?
remember fits is king on suit and all the clothes you wear. you can order a suit from indochino.com.

i like my jones NY suit from mens warehouse. one solid, one with a box pattern.

I think i am going to go with kakies and a nice shirt this year though. seems like the fancy functions have gotten less fancy.

What are you asking for? Really cheap suits? Try Uniqlo or H&M though I am betting the cut is too aggressive for you. Have you thought about Goodwill or the Salvation Army? I am not joking.

Sorry bro! Stupid long arms can make it annoying to buy shirts/jackets.

KT

Simple thing called a tailor.
If you do not want to pay for custom made, then get something that does your arms and shoulders. Then have the sides taken in.

Big chest, short arms. Sleeves are taken in.

Good suit place will get you looking good with quality.

Did that this past spring for a wedding
Two suits, shirts and ties. Wife forced the latter items. Solid blue and a mild patterned gray.

when you're going cheap, get a cut you like and make sure it fits. anything else is more trouble than most of you fellas are going to want to deal with. ignore materials. look for sales this weekend?

and probably get a size or two smaller than what you think you need

Usually the word overpriced is used when something is worth more than its valued. It's not a synonym for "too expensive to me"

I am not trying to give you a hard time but you want a suit for $300 and you are acting like you know anything about fit, construction, materials, etc. Like me rubbing my chin and complaining about the carbon fiber quality on a Bugatti.

Check for sales at Macy's, J Crew, Banana Republic. Possibly Brooks Brothers on Black Friday.

brooks brothers outlets near me have 50% off this weekend. much lower quality than their main lines though, but you can still pick up 2 OK suits for around $500

Feel free to overspend your money how you wish. I'm just saying I wouldn't spend $400 on that. But someone who doesn't want to overspend like you do automatically makes them, in your opinion, impoverished.
