Time to upgrade or wait...???

If you look at my sig, you'll see my current pc specs. I was thinking about upgrading my cpu, mobo and memory.I just upgraded my gpu from a 8800gts to a 6950 (2gig). I use my pc for mostly gaming with a some image editing and a little video editing.

Is now a good time to upgrade or is there a new cpu coming out soon that I should wait for?

I'm not a "groupie" as far brands go. I would like my next cpu to be an amd, however, I'm open for suggestions.

As far budget goes, for the cpu I would like to stay in the $200-$250 range.

That's not such a bad proc...just a smidgeon better than my C2D/EE. Especially with a decent o/c, it should be able to handle most newer games still, doesn't it?

In other words, I don't see you hurting that bad just yet, and you could probably afford to hold out for a little longer to see where prices drop when the new CPUs get released.

Unfortunately, the only real way to answer this question is with another question. Are you happy with the current performance of your PC?

You've got the Xeon equivalent of an E8400, so you're probably fine for most games. The main thing that is holding you back is the fact that you only have 2GB of RAM. You can buy a 2GB stick of DDR2 800 for $30, so that's an easy problem to remedy.

The pc is not doing to bad. I think I could upgrade to W7 and add more ram.

Second the more ram it will make a world of dif perhaps if you have the cash get a 60 gig ssd for $90

If you were to change the CPU then most likely you would have to change the motherboard and RAM as well. Since you are anticipating the Bulldozer to come out you could get another stick of DDR2 2GB while you wait it out. A cheap and easy way to give more room for your PC to work with.
