Lion, Witch & Wardrobe, LOTR, Lord of the Flies, 1984, One Flew Over Cuckoo's Nest, Grapes of Wrath, Great Gatsby, Things Fall Apart, To Kill A Mockingbird.

Nothing too surprising, although thank GOD there's no Ayn Rand on that list. And I've heard awesome things about I,Claudius. Things Fall Apart is an awful book, btw. Would not reccommend.

No Hunter Thompson. List sucks.

Edit: Off of that list I've read:

Animal Farm
The Catcher In The Rye
Infinite Jest (has to be the best book on the list)
The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe
The Lord of the Rings
1984
To Kill a Mockingbird

Animal Farm, Are You There God? It's Me, Margaret, Lord of the Flies, The Lord of the Rings, Midnight's Children, 1984.

I've read six out of their one hundred. Time to throw some on my library reserve list.

You've never read to kill a mocking bird? how did you escape high school with this feat?
yea thats a good question, also how did you avoid The Catcher in the Rye??

those 2 are pretty much standard in HS

TKAMB was good CITR sucked ass
I dunno, they never really pressed it up here. We had to suffer through a bunch of Margaret Atwood instead, so maybe it's a Canadian/American dynamic.

I've read 18 of them. Sadly, none within the past couple years. I seem to have just stopped reading.

First thing that came to my mind as well. Not a lot of modern novels on there.

This list looks more like a list from elitists...

I've read 34 out of that list. Good list, nothing pretentious about it as someone suggested. It could give someone a good idea of where to start if they should decide they want to be well-read and know something about the world and not just entertained.

Considering the time frame of the books in the list...they are all modern.

I've read about 25 of them, the list does seem a bit arbitrary. Regardless, the ones I have read have merit to be included.

I've read 23 of those novels. Some of those listed are questionable in my mind as to whether they belong on a list of top 100, but it's all subjective anyway.

You know what, probably my favorite book of all time, A Brave New World by A. Huxley is not on it...

I would have had more Hemingway on that list. Also, no Mark Twain? Lit critics tend to hate sci-fi but I would have included the Book of the New Sun.

Lion, Witch & Wardrobe was the weakest of the Narnia book, allegory with a baseball bat.

LOL, you must have really hated Magician's Nephew! Definitely looking forward to the movie in a couple months.

Idealy they would have just listed "Chronicles of Narnia", but probably couldn't since it technically wasn't one book.

Amusingly, I found it refreshing that this list was lacking the obligatory and senseless adulation of Hemmingway.
Also, no Mark Twain?
The title is misleading - it says "all-time" but it's really 1923-present.

I've read 4. I liked two and hated 2

Liked:
The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe
The Lord of the Rings

Hated:
The Sun Also Rises
Their Eyes Were Watching God

Normally, I would say I hated those books because they were assigned, but I loved "All Quiet on the Western Front" and I was required to read it. I had to read either AQotWF or "Watership Down".
