TimeShift demo for PC

Saw this new demo posted today for another FPS but what caught my eye were the cinematics, and how amazing they look from the screenshots I saw! (maybe cause I only have a 6600GT) Looks kind of like a cross between Quake and Max Payne I say, but maybe you say different.

Demo is of 1 single player level... Getting 600K/s from the link below as we speak

Just tried it, and it basically ran like crap on my system. Had to lower settings much just to get close to playable framerates. Plus the computer just stopped with regular intervals, looping the sound, so I do not know if it is something that is not as it should with the demo, or if the system requirements are just that insane.

7800GT and its not running well? wow
When I have problems of my games doing that it's usually cause my card was overclocked too much. Don't know if you are or not, but a suggestion.

what is the point of a game that makes a 7800GT choke?

Running stock speed (400 + 40 delta, 1Ghz for ram). Overclocking the card gave a slight increase, but very slight.

my update: i have 1280x1024 everything up on an x800pro and its a bit choppy, im gonna lower to 10x7 and see how that runs

I doubt the xbox version will have such high resolution textures as the PC version. This is more extreme than I ever seen before in this area.

To sell next gen Hardware. It seems the game developers these days have only one thing in mind; Sell cards for nVidia and ATI that sponsor much of their development.

On 1024x728 it is much more playable, but this is redicilous, I should not have to run 1024x728 on a 7800GT. Hopefully there is much optimization left to be done before the game gets released, and by then it will run well enough.

I have found that I absolutely love setting people on fire....

I just got this 7800GT before xmas, and now I feel that I will probably very soon be forced to spend more money than I can muster in such a short while, only to be able to play at even decent frame rates. Somone somewhere better get their act togheter and start allowing graphics cards to survive for at least one year before they start slaughtering them....

10x7 was much more playable on my x800pro...T101, i wonder why you aren't getting much better frames than i am, because your 7800 should rape my x800

I was able to run it at 1680x1050 sorta smoothly. I had to turn off the 2x aa and put the graphics on "good" instead of "great". There was still a slight pause every once in awhile, almost like a speed up and then a slow down of the walking animation which I'm hoping is some sort of bug they havn't ironed out. The game has potential, was deffinitely different, extremely arcadey feeling FPS.

I dont get it It ran fine for me on a 6800GT, other than a short pause every now again.

I'm sorry, but due to the terms of the Federal Hype Reduction Act of 2001, use of the phrase "extreme" in any technical product description is punishable by a mandatory 1 year sentence in a Federal DeHyping Educational Camp. Enjoy hours of knitting and watching PBS from within the soothing pastel confines of Club Fed, my friend.

And oh yeah, graphics > gameplay.

well, i played some of it. material set to good. 1280x1024 was too "hitchy". not really choppy fps, but would hitch every 3 secs or so. dropped to 1024, and a little better. 800x600 got rid of the hitching, but then i would get the hang and looping like T101, so i quit.

realized i had 2xqaa and 8xaf on once i already loaded the game. ill try it without aa next time and see if that makes a difference.

edit: turned of aa. dropped to 4xaf. went all the way down to low on 800x600, and it was still hitching and looping.

driver issue maybe?

I suspect that something is not as it should with the demo. Hopefully it runs better in its final version.

Increasing the priority of the game thread greatly improved performance, and reduced the "hitching" as you call it.

NOTE: There is a known issue with sound card drivers that is not documented in the readme. The side effect is reduced frame rate which manifests as a "stuttering" when you enter different EAX domains and other sound effects start cycling. But, there is a simple work around:

Update your sound card drivers. Ninety percent of the time this is the issue. We use a very advanced sound system for the 10,000 lines of dialogue, and often your sound card drivers are not up to date (or worse yet are the default windows drivers).

We also employ the use of an advanced autodetect system to calibrate the game for your video settings. On some configurations the system breaks down and assigns funny settings based upon bad information it gathers from drivers. We are working on improving this system for the full version of the game but until then consider going through the settings and manually adjusting them.

Here are the biggest performance-effecting settings:

1) Resolution (Consider reducing it)
2) Material Quality (This is what shader model you're using; a lesser one would decrease visual quality but increase performance.)
3) Reflections (Consider turning it off to improve framerate)
4) Anti Aliasing (Consider reducing it or switching it off)
