Yes, becasue you should always base your hardware upgrade decisions on the opinion on a single random forum member who claims his hardware did not run a single random game beta demo at acceptable speeds under unknown conditions.

I totally agree. My experience with this particular game demo is no reason to not buy a 7800GT. Unless the programmers have messed up big time, the full version is hopefully somewhat better and will be running smoother.

NOTE: There is a known issue with sound card drivers that is not documented in the readme. The side effect is reduced frame rate which manifests as a "stuttering" when you enter different EAX domains and other sound effects start cycling. But, there is a simple work around:

Update your sound card drivers. Ninety percent of the time this is the issue. We use a very advanced sound system for the 10,000 lines of dialogue, and often your sound card drivers are not up to date (or worse yet are the default windows drivers).

We also employ the use of an advanced autodetect system to calibrate the game for your video settings. On some configurations the system breaks down and assigns funny settings based upon bad information it gathers from drivers. We are working on improving this system for the full version of the game but until then consider going through the settings and manually adjusting them.

Here are the biggest performance-effecting settings:

1) Resolution (Consider reducing it)
2) Material Quality (This is what shader model you're using; a lesser one would decrease visual quality but increase performance.)
3) Reflections (Consider turning it off to improve framerate)
4) Anti Aliasing (Consider reducing it or switching it off)

Updated to latest drivers from Creative. That helped somewhat, at least now I can play the game reasonably if I set things to Good instead of Best.

As for the performance tips;
1. Droping lower than my native 1280x1024? don't think so.
2. Dropped this from Best to Good. So far I can not see any difference in the demo. There is no percievable difference in effect and graphical quality during game play (you probably have to pause the game and start looking really close at each and every effect in order to find the difference).
3. I wont even comment this one. You do not buy a 7800GT just to turn of the eye candy.
4. Turned this off. In some games this makes a great deal of visual quality, not so much in this timeshift demo, but it helped improve framerate.

As for the rest of my setup. Windows XP Pro, with all latest drivers installed, all crucial windows updates, and latest Direct X installed. No programs running in the background, and I even killed unnecessary services in order to try to gain more FPS. The greatest impact was to finally increase the priority of the game thread from Normal to High.

People need to stop being A-holes and stop renaming sht. Why not just call it Shader Model?! Freakin Duche bags.

On a 7800GT, it ran pretty well with most the graphics options and at the highest except for AA. But this damn stuttering is a bitch. FRAPS reported a minimum of 25fps and a high of about 50 IIRC. This was just in one section though. The stuttering is definitely annoying and you can only get rid of it by having high framerates.

Updating my sound drivers didn't fix it.

Update after settings frustrations: Once again developers are freakin stupid and can't just tell you what each Fcking setting does. Instead they give it some vague stupid name like "Material Quality" and have to make you guess at it. WTF is their problem. Don't they play games. What about the fcking testers?Dammit!!

VIAN: Nope, updating sound drivers did not fix it, but it helped somewhat. It is still a far cry from being playable at maximum settings.
I agree upon the fact that game developers should stop naming settings with their own names for different technological aspects of the graphics engine.

Reflections set to good, AA off, 1024x768, game played okay. Stuttered at save points which is pretty normal. Changed AA to 2x and it was pretty bad.

Did anyone else notice a little lag between when you move your view and the "crosshairs" need to catch up with it? Is that a feature or performance lag?

Overall, eh, it's okay. Yes, I know it's a demo, but it seemed really easy on medium (as long as you lit everyone on fire).

EDIT: Also, using onboard sound, so turned EAX and HD accelleration off.

I noticed the crosshair lag too. Not sure what to attribute it to, my mouse has been wacky lately.

Game graphics don't seem that good for how it plays, hopefully the final version will play better.

Screenshots look really nice, espp. in close-up shots, but reading what you guys said, I'm not holding my breath.

And for the OP - blood, in an FPS? Oh my! :Q

Not to bump an old thread, but.......... Very nice looking IMO. Very vibrant colors. Shadows and details are greate. AI are so/so, but the timeshifting will add a few hours of fun. Anyone notice you can't strafe though? Left arrow makes you *look* left and right is the same. Am I missing something. This can't be the design.
