Sometimes magnification sucks, they look really nasty when you think of that as you drink

This is why New York bagels taste so good.

If these are in the water, where are they coming from and what else is growing in there.

You have to assume they didn't make it thru the treatment plants and have entered in somewhere in between...and if they are entering or entered somewhere, what's to stop anything else that small or smaller from entering the system.

I wonder how humanity survived before chlorinated and flourinated water. Geez, people need to get a grip. Has anyone every drunk out of a stream before?

Meh I'd still drink it. NYC water isn't that bad. I does have a slight lake water type aroma though.

People look at me in horror when i drink the tap water at work. I work in Potomac, MD, one of the richest areas in the country. You'd think the tap water here is safe.

People are stoopid.

The matter of copepods in the water supply, however, has raised a problem for Jewish people who observe Kashrut in that copepods, being crustaceans, are not kosher, and are not small enough to be ignored as non-food microscopic organisms (since some specimens can be seen with the naked eye). The discovery of copepods in the New York water supply in the summer of 2004 in particular caused significant debate in rabbinical circles and caused many observant Jews to buy filters for their water.[9]

Copepods I have not problems with, just extra protein and calcium.

Parasites on the other hand, do not want.

Didn't read the article in the OP, but read a different story yesterday.
A) NYC doesn't have to filter their water (because it meets some particular standard)
B) Copepods may actually have been introduced into the water intentionally to do battle with mosquito larvae. Mosquito larvae = bad. Copepods = protein water.

So I'm getting tasty protein with my refreshing drink of water...I fail to see the issue.

My friend did during a hiking trip a couple years ago. He even added iodine to it but still came down with a really nasty parasite. Puking and diarrhea for 4-5 days and hospitalized so he could get an IV drip to restore lost fluids.
