Here is the thing they don't tell you.

They are basically considered RV's. That's why they have to be on wheels. So they don't have to go through all the codes. You are also not allowed to live in one full time since that is the case. Probably 99 percent of the counties out there only allow you to live in one for about 2-4 weeks a year.

If you want to stay longer you need to build a real house. These tiny houses are also not cheap and don't make sense if you have to go through all the normal building codes and build one. If you are going to actually build it's much more economical to build a bigger house. Most code requires certain size rooms and such anyway so they would have to be bigger.

There are actually tons of tiny houses all over already long before this movement started. I see old very small tiny houses on realtor.com all the time. The thing is they are all crap. Nobody wants to keep them up and they fall apart. There is no money and value in them enough from an investment viewpoint. For not much more you can just buy a bigger house and get way more value.

Don't get me wrong. I love the idea. But they are pretty much outlawed all over to live in full time. This isn't something new. A shame they don't change the laws. I own a bunch of land in different spots. Would love to put some on it. But the county said I could live in it for 2 weeks a year. Basically as recreation property.

Sure you can park one some place and see how long you get away with it. A lot of people will go a long time I bet. Others will get caught or have neighbors call in on you.

There are a lot of reasons I could see why they county doesn't want tons of these crammed in all over. But I wish they'd loosen up a little and make it easier to put some Tiny house on wheels on a property.

a tiny house budget is 25k, a big house budget is 4x that if you live in a shit area.

Typically they start from that. Most decent ones are 40 to 60k. And then you need to buy the land anyway. And you didn't get what I was saying. If you need to build one to code to live in it full time you ware going to have to pay way more than that. Sure a cheap one on wheels is 25k. But you still have to buy land, and also you can only live in it 2-4 weeks a year. One you can live in full time all up to code and built on the land is much more.

1) You don't need to buy land if you can rent a spot on someone's property for way less
2) I got your point, the correction would be "You can only live in it until you get caught"

Fair enough. But I just like people to know that if they want to do it legally they need to know how things are. Most of this Tiny house movement is being pushed by sellers and builders and they always conveniently leave out that you can't just drive it off the lot, onto another lot, and legally live in it. I see a lot of people really excited to get a tiny house thinking that's what they will do. And these sellers keep hiding the facts. And all these people making money off the video's and books hide the facts too.

It does sounds awesome if you could just drive it off the lot and onto another. Lots of people love the simple life idea for cheap. And are sick of the rat race. I think it's great. Wish more people could do it. But this country is set up so there are roadblocks everywhere against simple living.

All this says is the laws are behind the times.

Mind you, even if it were easier and the laws followed suit, I still wouldn't live in one of those tiny houses. I'd be perfectly happy with a modular build or pre-build, but it would have to be much bigger.

So...it's illegal to live in a doublewide? 'Cause I think there are a lot of people out there proving that it's not.

Trailers do not have foundations. Most still have the wheels.

However, I do agree with the 'there are already tons of tiny houses' sentiment...again...trailer parks. The 'tiny house' movement is just a hipster fad for people too insecure to admit they live in a trailer.
