Tip the furniture guys???

I'm getting a bedroom suite today.

Would be nice if I could actually pay for it.

Why do they need tocall me at 7AM on Saturday to tell me they'll be here in the afternoon?

WHY ARE THEY OPEN AT 7AM?!?!

Anyhoo... I was wondering if you tip the guy that brings the furniture. Is that expected?

As for the tipping, according to http://www.gvmoving.com/prepare.html, tipping $3-4 per hour per man is suggested, but tipping is not required. I bet it varies tremendously from place to place. My suggestion - if they don't wreck your stuff, be thankful! If they do, don't.

I'm sure they would appreciate it, but it shouldn't be expected. Did you have to pay extra for delivery? If so, I wouldn't tip. We got new living room furniture and had to pay 50.00 for delivery, so I didn't tip the delivery guys.

I tipped the two guy's who delivered our furniture 5 bucks a piece simply because they busted their backs trying to get our full sized couch moved into an incredibly hard to navigate condo.

If they just had to walk into in a double wide french patio door, then it would have been a different story. But, since it took them over 15 minutes to move a couch less than 35 feet, I figured that a little brew money for after work couldn't have hurt

Cool. Well, if my wife says to tip the furniture guys, I'll wait for them to come in with a night stand in his hand and just push him over.

If the night stand gets damaged in the fall, I'll refuse it and make them get me a new one.

I always tip the delivery people. If I'm tipping waitresses and waiters 15-20% for the food they deliver, I'm gonna tip the people that have to carry my furniture. Besides, assuming you paid over around 1K+ for the furniture, what's $20 as a tip afterwards?

They were in and out real fast. 10 minutes tops. Everything delivered in good shape in crates. I threw the two guys $5 a piece. Then they handed me the bill for the furniture and a tear came to my eye.

Anyone want me to build them a PC.

i don't tip furniture guys, but i usually get them some coke and stuff. I pay an unbelievable amount (at least a lot of money for me) for some of my furniture, most of which is custom made. Delivery people are their problem, and work for them. The sales people should also come to my home and see if the furniture was delivered correctly, etc and bascially kiss my butt afterwards. they usually do all that which is why I enjoy shopping w/ them. glad your furniture arrived okay.

I got the feeling that there was no need for a tip. And one asked for ice water right off and I was happy to oblidge.

Fact is, I work hard at a thankless job, so I figured if I'm just my typical nice guy self, it might make their day better.

It's that whole karma thing.

johnyGURU, dam i didn't want to sound like a snob Hey, a lot of money for me could be 100 bucks or so and custom made could mean me putting IKEA furniture together in my garage Of course that wouldn't explain the sales people, but hey I could have a cousin that works at IKEA that comes over to help me put that stuff together, explaining that part. hey, yeah, that's it!

If they're really nice, I think it makes sense to tip them. If they just seem adequate, I think giving them drinks and so on is good enough. . . .
