Tires are completely different and they do that because the tires get to ridiculous temperatures.

When I play Nascar heat (yes I know I shouldn't mention this but I will) I always raise the tires to the highest PSI allowed and have always found that the tires not only stay cooler but they grip just as well if not better in the game.

Did you really just use your video game experience to help prove your point? Wow...just wow.

Have you ever driven a car in real life? I'm betting that all these cars you CLAIM to own are all in your garage in SegaGT on your PS2.

Of course I did. I've found simulators to be quite real though unfortunately Gran Turismo does not have tire pressure adjustment. I just thought it'd be a fun anecdote to add.

Simulators are only as good as the code. I don't think I'm going out on a limb by saying that the effects of tire pressure in games are horribly oversimplified.

The tire/road contact is actually pretty complex. It doesn't completely act like normal Coulomb friction because the rubber squishes into the crevices of pavement.

For reference, when I got my S-10 ZR2 it came with all-terrain tires and the recommended inflation was 30 PSI. Frankly I only did that while off-roading. On the road things worked better at 35 PSI.
Just put on HTS Grabbers (of the same size) and inflated them to 35. Not good enough. Handling was poor. Took it to the local mechanic and they took them up to 50 PSI and left them for most of the day. No problems. They suggested I leave them at 40-45 most of the time while on the streets.

For the past month that has worked just fine.

I dont know why I told that story. Probably just to calm you angry mother fuckers down.

And why does he keep banging on about Bias-ply tyres? They were pretty much replaced by steel belted radials in the early seventies.

To answer "what determines how much air goes into tire?" The answer is: how much you put in them! Still running my 4 year old tires at 50 psi. Empirically even wear, no problems here. OP, do whatever you're comfortable with...
