Hello everyone,

The GF's 2014 Subaru Crosstrek AWD needs new tires at 29,000 miles.

I honestly didn't pay attention to what the factory had on their for tires and she just had the dealer replace them. I'm thinking there's got to be a warranty on tires that wore out that fast, but the dealer says no.

The manual briefly covers wear items for 3 years/36,000 miles but doesn't say anything about tires.

Do you guys know if there's a warranty for tire wear on factory tires?

Factory tire warranties usually only cover defects, not wear or road hazzard.

I read that 5 times last night

Finally I see it:

Parts Covered By Other Warranties
These warranties do not cover any parts, such as tires, which are covered by their own separate warranties.

So now it's back to the tire manufacture. I wonder if it's too late since the tires are sitting in a scrap heap by now.

I don't really get it myself, seems like something is wrong. I know factory tires don't last long, but I'm assuming they were at least 50k tires...
My Mazda B4000 had some trash Firestone tires that didn't even last 24K. Guy at my tire store said they were really cheap tires.

My guess is that they would pro-rate them from the original warranty (40k maybe 50K).
You may be 20.00 credit per tire, maybe more. Depends on what tire store is willing to deal with that warranty.

I didn't deal with it myself, i just bought the tires that I really wanted for my truck. No more Firestones for me.

Well here we go, dealer says no warranty on factory 'installed' tires pro-rated or other wise. Claims 30k on factory tires isn't abnormal.

Guess I call Subaru next or a manager.

Tires are consumables. Usually tire warranties only cover defects, not normal wear and tear. It really depends on what kind of tires they are, how aggressive you drive, the typical road surface, proper inflation, etc. Check the wear rating of the tires. 30k isn't too bad, depending on the tires.

Tires have a tread wear rating system and the code for a specific tire is specified on the sidewall.

In general, OEM tires dont last long (eg, 25-30K miles is typical) and the warranty is typically with the tire manufacturer as discussed in your vehicle owners manual.

Anyways while you're at it, ny experience is that what is going on with your tires has been often the situation with the auto's battery (ie, a not top of the line battery is OEM standard). So I would watch that carefully & not push an OEM car battery past 4 years (3 to be safe).

Depending on how aggressive the driver is, under acceleration, cornering or braking, tires will wear out faster. Tread wear or life is usually not a warranteeable item by tire companies. They cover things like belt seperation or failure from some types of road hazards.

I guess I'm assuming (I know bad) that tires typically last for 50k, but you guys are right. The factory isn't going to put a 50k or 70k tire on a car.

Say what you want about the crappy Firestone tires. I have 35K on a set and they look like they will go another 15K before I need to replace them. These are the set that came with the car

The OEM Continental tires on my Civic needed replacing at ~20k miles. No warranty from Honda or Continental.

bingo. tire manufacturers can quote typical lifetimes all day long, but it really comes down to how you drive.

I still blame the driver. While I agree they don't install super high-end tires, 30k is abnormally short for them to wear out. Not like she bought an STI.

LOL well my city does have a lot of pot holes, but she drives every day like it's a Sunday. It's never seen gravel or mud and an occasional trip outside of the 'city'.
