Tired of my IBM 75GXP piece of crap. Should I get 120GXP or go for WD or Maxtor?

Just kinda looking for a new drive.. something fairly inexpensive, reliable, long-lasting. My 75GXP gets errors all the damned time.

I've heard good things about Seagate drives. Maxtor or WD would probably be fine as well.

I recommend the Maxtor D740X drive. Great performance, top seek times, and quiet too, if you get the Fluid Bearing model.

Maxtor D740X is my latest addition to my box.

It isnt as quiet as my IBM 60GXP. Performance similiar.

out of curiousity, have you run drive fitness on that hdd. if it finds errors & you're still within the drive's warranty period you could rma it!

If your IBM is faulty and you are not keen to stay with IBM,then yes the Maxtor D740X is a great harddrive,I`m using one at the moment and it`s fast and quiet.

drive fitness didn't like the fact that my ATA100 devices are on a different bus.

Yea! And then they can send you a refurbished one that'll die even quicker! Oh wait...
