Tired of waiting

I sold my X1800XT back in Jan to wait on more cards. Over the course of waiting I decided to just wait for Crysis/UT3 to come out then upgrade. So now I am thinking about buying a used video card to hold me over for the next 6-8 months or how ever long its takes for those games to come.

What I would like to know whats the best bang for your buck card that will run anything out at 1440x900 with medium to high settings and it be playable? I'm no FPS freak so I don't need more than 25-40FPS. I am buying used BTW. One last thing should I wait another week or so to allow ATI's cards to come? Would it drop the price of used cards even further?

I don't want to spend that kind of money right now since that might not run Crysis/UT3 the way I like to play games. I guess I should say I am only looking to spend $100-120 used.

you wont get anything better than a x1800xt for that much money I dont think, unless you can get a x1900/1950 for that much. even those probably won't be enough performance increase to justify the $120 upgrade

I actually wasn't specificly trying to find something as fast or faster. Wasn't really hoping to upgrade. I sold my X1800XT a few months back wanting to upgrade but I've changed my mind and am wanting to wait till those games come and really upgrade. I am running a GF2 MX right now so anything will be a upgrade from it.

Was just offered a EVGA 7900GS KO for $100 shipped. Think this is a good deal with newer cards coming out? Think these would go even cheaper used with the newer cards coming out? Or is this likely the price they will stay at for months to come?

I guess that pretty much sums it all up.

Hell, I'm in the same boat. My X1800XT died, and I'm not very enthused about paying top dollar for 7 month old tech (8800). Once DX10 games are out I know there will be refreshes of the current hardware far more capable than what will be a 1 year old card by then.

This may have been different if DAAMIT was able to compete with NV last year.

So, for current games, I can get by with a slower card. Thinking about a $85 7600GT or $70 8500GT to last me 6 months until DX10 is mainstream and refreshes of first gen parts are out.

Besides, the move up from 1024x768 with no FSAA to an enthusiast card will make me appreciate it more, know what I mean?

You two missed the point. I originally sold my X1800XT back in Jan and was gonna wait for more DX10 cards to come and go from there. Waiting on Nvidia and AMD/ATI got me thinking going with a DX10 card is a waste of money right now. I was waiting for a mid-level card and 8600GTS seems like a piece of crap for the price. AMD/ATI's line probably won't be much better. So therefor I want to go with something as cheap as possible to get me by till Crysis/UT3. Its not about a upgrade thing anymore.

But originally that was my plan(to upgrade).

Really I'm not looking to spend more then $100(used). If I'm gonna give much more I'd rather just bite the bullet and go with a 8800 series.

The 8800 series prices should start dropping across the board starting on Monday, the new ATI card launch date.

Just imagine the deals will be getting, when the new ATI cards start flooding the market...

I never said they'll go for $100.
I've suggested to wait a few days if the OP decides to bite the bullet and go with a 8800 series.

Yeah the 7900GS KO for $100 shipped ain't bad right now but I am betting if I can hold off for a 2-3 more weeks I might be able to score a x1950pro, 7900GT, X1800XT or similar for $100. I am gonna wait and see what happens in the next couple weeks. Heck I've waited 4 months to really game so whats another couple weeks. If for some strange reason the 8800GTS 320mb drops near $200 I might just get one.
