Wife is at the tire shop waiting. She got a flat yesterday. I'm doubtful it's repairable, close to the edge of the tread, close call.

They don't have many tires in stock for her car, and she needs it by Monday. Currently we are both running Kelly Edge A/S tires, we love them, but the shop that carries those won't have time until Tuesday to fit them. They are very smooth and quiet, but seem to be wearing fast.

So she's at Discount tire. They have the Nokian ENCOMPASS AW01 for $110.00. Claimed to be an all season tire, 60K warranty. Anyone try these? I hear they are great in winter, worried about summer. Although she drives slooow most the time anyways.

They also have "GT Radials". Not sure where they are made. Would save $100 with those. Or for $50 more than the Nokians we can get Continental CONTROL CONTACT TOUR A/S PLUS.

Any advice, got a couple hours to decide.

Too bad I didn't get any response. The guy recommended the Nokians over the Conti's, for better winter taction, my wife's main concern. She just got back with it. They seem nice on the test drive, quiet and smooth like the Kelly's, a little less responsive on cornering. I think I could live with it.

I'll need a set before next winter, so I'd still be interested in opinions on the Continental CONTROL CONTACT TOUR A/S PLUS. It has a 80K warranty as opposed to the Nokians 60k.

Flat wasn't repairable, as expected. My wife was down to 4/32 and 5/32 on all tires with 45k on them. I've got about 5/32 on all, with HALF the mileage (23k)... I drive a little more aggresive.

i liked the nokians on our volt, but they are totally falling apart from age after 6 years, I have never had another tire do that after 6 years. car is garage kept. my wife works from home and the volt does not get driven that much as its not our road trip machine so the tires are maybe half to 2/3 worn. I put a set of the continental control contact sport srs + on my Buick regal tourX wagon and they have been very good so far, maybe 5k miles on them. We live in CO in the foothills of the rockies on a dirt road, so pretty rough on tires.

I would wait, mixing tires may make for some bad handling characteristics.

What model? These have only been on the market for about 6 months, made in their USA plant.

I live in Ontario, Canada on the north shore of Lake Superior. Similar weather to yours in Michigan, maybe a bit worse in winter. I have no experience with SUMMER or "All-Season" tires from Nokian. Actually, I just bought set of 4 SUMMER tires by Michelin because they are well-rated and a local dealer had a good sale price. (We have had a lot of late-spring snow storms very recently. Fortunately I had the new summers mounted on my alloy rims but NOT installed on my car, so my winters are still doing the job!)

Regarding WINTER tires, I really like the better Nokian models. We (I, my daughter, and my son) have them on a 2014 Mazda 3 and two 2021 Nissan Sentras, and we've been very pleased with them through a couple winters so far. Nokain Hakkapeliita R3's on two of those cars, and the more recent model Hakkpeliita R8's on one. Those models are rated among the best by reviewers concentrating on Canadian and US winter conditions. Nokians are less well-known in North
America and sell fewer than other makers, so you find fewer retailers that carry them. I deal with a local branch of a Western Canadian chain that appears to have exclusive retailer rights in the western half of this country, and their service and prices are very good.

Had to go look, entyre 2.

I have read of issues with the Entyre and Entrye 2 models of all season tires, they are discontinued now. They were made at the Russian plant, which they were phasing out in 2021.

These ENCOMPASS AW01'a are All Weather tires, not All season, whatever that means.

All weather tires should perform better better in winter conditions than all seasons. They should have a three peak mountain symbol. Kind of a hybrid of a winter tire and all seasons that don’t need to come off in the summer.

I’ve never owned Nokian tires but from what I’ve read if you’re looking for tires that have an emphasis on winter driving they are a great choice.
