well, its almost time for some new tires 3/32nds

What would you guys recommend? Car is in sig

245/45-18s is the size I am looking at. 150 per tire max. I also drive 64 miles a day 4 days a week, so Need something that lasts.

General Exclaim- 380 tread rating, and can be had at 140 per tire shipped. This tire has great reviews, but are there any other tires out there that are great?

I only buy Michelins. Expensive but lasts a while.

Any of the Pilots should be good.

Check out Hankook, a lot of people are swearing by it. Great money for values, drives great. I haven't personally driven on them, but a lot of friends had them on their cars love it.

Exclaims are highly recommended on the GTI/VW forums for a good balance of price, treadwear ratings and performance. I think you can't go wrong with them

If you get little to no snow then go with the Exclaim. I looked at a lot of tires and put those on my Corvette.

Like PhoKingGuy said, and I agree, they seem to be one of the best all round tires for treadwear, performance, and price.

Tread rating is dependent on the type of tires, check out different ones. Performance tires and summer tires don't tend to last that long.

Yes, because they have low tread ratings, for better grip.

It seems the there is no competition between the Generals on all the aspects. 340+ tread rating is what I am looking at.

Get the generals, you'll find them a decent cross for the price you pay. Unless you want to spring for like PS2s or something

Interesting. I just got some Nexen N3000's for my Evo. Same spec tires as well 245/40/18". I got them for $115 a piece and they're pretty damn good. Check em' out. Google for some reviews.

Really? I had Michelin Pilots on my Mazda and they were the crappiest tires I had ever used. They had poor rain/snow traction and chirped on dry cement all the time. The tread lasted a long time, but they were otherwise crap. I would suggest avoiding these at all cost if you like any performance.

Edit: Where do you live? Are these all-season tires, or just to be driven during part of the year?

@OP, I remember hearing something about the Generals making the G35 VDC light go on.. Not sure how true it is as I never ran the tires myself, but might be something to look into.

I drive $220 Pilot Sport A/S Plus Z-rated tires. Insane rain and snow traction, I basically drive the same in snow, rain here in Boston as I do in dry conditions. They are loud though.

You may have different tires, but Pilots are generally rated as the best of the best.

Yea, that would make no sense, that depends on tire size, and it was prob a g35x with staggered wheels. As long as its the same on both sides on a RWD it will be fine, on a g35x if all of them are not the same or too diffrent in diameter I think thats when the VDC light turns on.

hmm, thats really weird? I don't see how this tire specifically would do that, its all about size.. hmm, but I dont really know. I know many G's that have these tires so I really dont know.

I have always liked Bridgestone's Potenza line. As long as you avoid the versions that are listed as OEM, they are great tires; they have always given me long and even wear as well as great traction both wet and dry.

Of course, the best from both Goodyear and Michelin are also very good tires and I think you'd be happy with them as well.

I've been happy with my Continental Contisport 3's and I drive 80+ miles a day. After about 25,000 miles there's still a good 1/3-1/2 tread left and the noise isn't too bad. They take a little while to warm up, but the grip is good once you're up to temp. Got mine from tirerack for about $120 per tire about a year ago when they were onsale.

I'd purchase them again and might if I decide to keep my car.
