Yeah its abit too much. Given how underclocked maxwell parts are including the Titan X..

I think we will see geforce variants with 6GB (or 5+1GB? ), 3rd party cooling and higher clocks (10~20% headroom) once R300 series hits the scene.

I think this is a near certainty so long as the 390X is not disappointing performance wise. If it equals, and hopefully bests, the Titan X - they will have to stick with a full GM200 to be competitive.

The 12GB VRAM is worthless, 6GB is ample. If there were a Titan X out right now with 6GB on a custom PCB such as an EVGA Classified type board, I would drop the $1000 for it. Titan X as it is falls short of the mark in making the same sort of splash the first Titan did.

I think the castrated DP is putting off potential buyers because resale on this card is going to be awful. In 3 months it will be probably be worth $500 on the resale market, potentially less, depending on 390X performance.

Id be interested to know just how many people who buy $999 item(s) are concerned with the resale value! Id be one of them though

I do and I am Especially with video cards with how quickly I know I'll replace them. Probably doesn't make much sense with the sort of unrecoverable money we dump on other things, but I've gotten in the habit of selling all my PC parts when I replace them.

This. I have to assume this is just a temporary cash grab from Nvidia to those who want the latest and greatest. Even if cut down, a classified/lightning/etc should beat this card for hundreds less since it won't be ridiculously locked down. If the 390x is anywhere near (or better) in performance there would be no point to the card at $999. Even still there will be little point regardless when the 980ti or whatever they call it is released (assuming 390x is competitive they won't be able to neuter it to make the Titan X look better). All just my opinion of course.

That is ridiculous. What a joke!!

'12gb is so stupid, 12gb is worthless, this card is terrible cause it gots 12gb.

12gb is just worthless but.... but...6gb........ I would buy it for 1000$ if it was only 6gb on an EVGA classified board'

You know darn well how it would be spun had it came out with only 6gb. Especially now considering the 8gb 390x rumors.

I have never in my life seen anything like this. Trying to spin extra VRAM as some kind of negative. Its baffling.......
Well maybe not. There is always gonna be something. Good look trying to push that one though. There is no one gonna buy into it, although I expect it to be repeated on forums across the world. But no one is gonna see 12gb as a drawback.

No matter how much you try to spin 12gb as a negative, its never gonna become one. We have already seen games an settings run the VRAM usage up to 6gb. This was on launch day. That's what makes your statement so hilarious.

No one will believe hat having more ram is bad. Sorry.

It may not give a major real word advantage at this point but good luck on spinning this as some kind of drawback.

I did it for you guys !!!

Thank you for the sacrifice, it must have been difficult. LOL

Hopefully, you'll feel a big difference from 980 to Titan. However, you may need to upgrade the monitor (damn you Nvidia, you spin an expensive web) to get the real benefit out of a Titan X. People maybe disappointed with around 30% upgrade over 980, but in my experience that is the realm of noticeable performance difference especially if min FPS is improved as well. I'd like to see how the 12GB helps with games that cache alot of textures (big world games like GTA, Shadow of Mordor)

You feeling okay ?

12GB is worthless, 6GB is more than enough.

Let's see.

- The card is already being reported as power, temperature and cooler limited when overclocked. 6GB of DDR5 is eating into that power limit nvidia puts on their cards with no benefit in gaming. I guess if your plan is to run surround on 4K monitors you can breach that 6GB, otherwise it's not happening.

- The extra 6GB is putting out additional heat contributing to cooler/temp limits when overclocking.

- The extra 6GB adds to cost.

Titan X is a nice card, but it's not perfect and it's not as impressive as the original Titan was when it launched.

You don't believe that, but plenty of people do. Just look through this thread...

Actually only reason I did it is because I pre-ordered the new Acer Predator, and I don't want that massive fps drop going to 1440p

I ordered two from nVidia's site. It said that I would get an order confirmation shortly. Still haven't received it. How long did it take others to receive their order confirmation?

I placed my order right when they came online on Tuesday, so around 3PM EST. Didn't receive any kind of confirmation until after 8PM.

Given that there are going to be tons of 200 gpu cores made and nvidia won't be able to use them other than a 980 Ti 6GB the titan is basically going to be redundant as soon as AMD launches the 390x. Nvidia will respond with a cheaper 200 Based card

Titan is nvidia cashing in on its fans for a period of 3 months then you will all be left with a £900 card with 12gb of useless vram....

I really don't see this other than a epeen card....

I'd buy one tomorrow but I just know a Ti isn't far away and then I'll regret it as I'd rather Sli the Ti card and Sli the titan is stupid money.

Picked one up from Micro Center about 30 minutes ago. They just got it in today. Going to check out another Micro Center in Columbus. They should have one there.

Thank goodness! All is right in the world when Adam K has 4 of nvidia's latest and greatest!!!!!!!

I live vicariously through your hardware purchases

It turns out that the other Micro Center doesn't have any Titan X cards. At least, that's what they say. I'm on the lookout for the 4th card.

You get to play old games with 16QAA at 4k...that's about the only use for 12Gb rite now lol

Given that you can easily compress the data in vram and not affect performance the 12 gig is useless and is used to try and justify the price. Nvidia are basically cash grabbing before AMD get their act together. There is one born every minute and just buy the latest no matter if they can truly afford it or not.

The card has no basis in value vs performance. It's rediculous because it will be usurped in a matter of months by cards half its price based on its own design. No one really knows if this titan is 100% unlocked And uses the total gpu. I don't remember reading the original titan was a defective gpu with parts disabled until the 780 Ti launched with a fully enabled chip.

I don't think they can afford to hobble the chip and then use 6GB when the 390x launches. So they might have a Ti with overvoltage custom pcb for half the price from MSI. I don't see a scenario where the titan will beat that gpu. I also don't see how nvidia can compete otherwise given the 980 gpu is over priced and maxed out.

If the 390x is 8gb and performs as expected then it will force nvidias hand and screw all Titan owners within 3 or 4 months.

It was stated in the launch reviews that original Titan had 1 SMX disabled. Nvidia has stated that Titan X GM200 is fully enabled which makes sense with the maturity of the 28 nm node at this point compared to original titan launch frame.

assuming nvidia will need the full gm200 to keep pace or beat 390x then yes the 980ti will be the same as tit x but much cheaper with 6gb vram.

It was in the launch reviews of the Titan that it had a disabled cluster. Nvidia will go pretty far, but they said outright this is the full chip.

I think there will be a faster GM200 based card, whether via putting it on a custom PCB card with 6GB VRAM allowing more OC potential, or via a respin like we saw GK110 get with its B1 iteration we got in the 780ti, Titan Black and some of the later 780s.

Perhaps a combination of both. Right now the Titan X is not hitting the clocks that 980s do and with a respin or just putting it on a more robust PCB we should see that happen.
