EK Releases GeForce GTX TITAN X Water Blocks

nice, lets see how Titan-X will OC and perform with one of those.
But you add another $100 to the already expensive GPU. And that is if you already have a custom water cooling system (rad, pump, tubes etc etc)

Crappy block. They couldn't do a full cover for such an overpriced card ? Even EK is cheaping out

Also, seems like Titan X is a paper launch. No availability anywhere at any major etailors; newegg, ncix etc. Just on nvidia's own site and at EVGA where it has been OOS from launch

Anyways the fact that there are plenty of aftermarket cards coming points to the fact that this is 100% the 980 ti renamed to titan x to jack up the price.

imho,

Naming aside, this sku was probably going to be a 1,000 dollars -- priced high to not cannibalize GM-104 sales -- add to the GeForce and Titan branding, technology leadership, halo, revenue, margins.

When AMD enters the arena, there may be more affordable Maxwell big dies.

nVidia has always desired the 1000 dollar price-point, from 2007:

We do know NVIDIA has wanted to push up towards the $1000 graphics card segment for a while.

I never thought I would see single GPU sku's for a 1,000 -- nVidia even created a new brand for them. And some gamers may buy some -- not me -- too much of a premium for the performance offered -- respect the technology, the choice, but can't strongly defend the prices of higher end sku's like a GTX 980 or TitanX. nVidia can certainly engineer though!

I hate to admit it but Titan X looks like a very good GPU. My only gripe is the price. Of all the things you listed I see only 3 valid points:

Titan X:
(+) Gameworks

390X:
(+) Massive bandwidth
(+) Price

The rest will be available on both sides or are gimmicks.

That is in the eye of the beholder. I very much doubt AMD is going to improve their CF support this year. Same goes for CPU optimization. The display thing might solve itself, but it might simply take too much time:
I want to play the AAA games on or close to release on my new display, not maybe 6 months later. But it remains to be seen, who comes out first with a G-Sync/Free-Sync 27-28" 4K display with VA/IPS/...

This is my personal list btw...

Impressive performance over my original Titan (up to twice as fast), but there's no need to rush to get one. This time I'll wait to see how AMD's next card is, and the almost certain 980 Ti which will follow.

I'm glad I skipped the GTX980.
If you're looking for big chips, x04, and x06 aren't for you. You know the rest of the story, so no point repeating it.

Could explain the GK210 being released recently knowing that Maxwell wasn't going to utilize DP.
Well, some did guess as much. However, 'Titan' designation threw most others off, as DP was highlighted as one of the features with the last one.

That is the plan. Will be hard though if GTA V launches in April. I wish AMD would release the 390X by then.

Still probably June for 390x. You won't want to play GTA V on release anyways. Its going to need a few patches. Just look at it as a 2 month delay to potentially save you money (regardless of what video cards you buy) and to let the public find a few kinks for R* to fix.

Do you like the EVGA better ?? EK block is full cover, it does cover the VRMs as well.

Good post! I'm surprised by its thermals, acoustics and power output considering the sheer size and complexity of the design, being on the same node.

I'm actually disappointed. Whereas GK110 was TDP (aka clockspeed) limited, because of Maxwell's much great efficiency and clockspeed headroom, many (including myself) thought GM200 would be die sized limited and would therefore have the same clock speed headroom as GM204. I don't know how much of an affect (if any) 12gb of vram is having, but I feel like Nvidia should have just stuck to 6gb of vram if it meant the core could have worked up another 50mhz at stock and 100mhz OC. There is no game out the requires more than 6gb of vram at 4k that Titan X can run at good frame rates anyways. 50% more cores, ROPs, and bandwidth should have netted Titan X >=40% across the board vs. gtx980 but it didn't. I wonder if Nvidia will respin GM200 in an attempt to eek out more performance at the same TDP.

I feel like AMD is going to put Nvidia in an incredibly tough position with 390x having (hopefully) similar power draw, equal or faster performance, and hopefully a $300+ cheaper price tag.

Several reviewers remarked that they felt their overclocking was limited by one, or a combination of, the limits in place to govern the card; temperatures (weakness of cooler), power limit and voltage limit.

Remove those and the chip is going to do better. The problem is nvidia locks down power limits, puts a cooler on the card that can't handle the heat of higher overclocks and doesn't allow full voltage control. Even removing the power limit and putting a better cooler on the card would probably net another 5-10% performance gain when overclocking.

Watercooling Titan X would be as frustrating as my Titans were to watercool. You can completely control the temperatures but the card won't let you use any more power or voltage to get better results. This chip will do much better on a custom card designed for overclocking with a better cooler. 12GB VRAM is also eating into that power limit and at least 4GB of that VRAM is just worthless for a gaming card.

I only have problems with CF in GameWorks titles. Its pretty great & smooth in everything else I've played of late.

CPU optimization is actually very game specific, not all open world game run worse on AMD, in fact, Watch Dogs (GameWorks) runs just fine. We'll see how it is in GTA V though, I'm looking forward to that.

My Titan X won't be here until tonight and I'm already thinking of throwing a waterblock on it lol. With all the talk that this card is as loud as a 290X.

Not quite that loud, but nearly. I honestly don't care that much about noise since my headset blocks out everything anyway, and MSI cards usually are silent for me.

I used to not mind video card noise since I played games with closed headphones. After moving to open headphones a few years ago, I was noticing it much more. Many of my previous cards were quite loud on full load, but my current 980 is almost inaudible.

Annisman*, the wait is the WORST part!:'''(

The wait for my Strixx 970 about killed me,the worst part was it was delivered via Fedex smartpost lol.Tracked it and saw it arrive at the post officer after the mail truck started delivering so i went down there and picked it up.1 to 2 days to deliver my ass.

The cooler is pretty but really a POS that was barely even adequate for the first Titan (I speak from experience). For a $1000 card, NVIDIA should be ashamed of itself and what makes it worse is we don't even get that Witcher 3 bundle. I've got my Titan X on pre-order from Amazon and just got done spec'ing about $750 worth of cooling parts + blocks in anticipation of it. Gonna toss an EK block on this sucker and have my buddy from Tech|Inferno mod me an unlocked vbios and see what it does.

Idk man, I still have my Titan and I can only say great things about that cooler. It does stink that we get to spend 1k$+ on this Titan and not even get The Witcher 3 out of it.

I've come to my final conclusion that GM200 is either

A) Simply too big to fully realize it's potential without obvious manufacturing and technical caveats. Blame it on Nvidia's ambition and being stuck on 20nm. 600mm2 is simply huge.

OR

B) Has too much vram-costing wattage which is dipping too much into Nvidia's TDP specification limits.

OR

C) Needs a respin to full realize it's potential wth regards to performance, clockspeed, and Maxwell's efficiency.

It could be a combination of these things, but coming in noticeably less efficient than GM204 and hitting high temps rather easily despite it's relatively low clock speeds vs. GM204 leads me to believe one (or more) of my 3 above realizations. It's not GF100 bad, but it's definitely not as all-around eye opening as GK110 was at the original Titan release. Nvidia may have rushed this out to get a 3 month OMG lead over AMD and continue to hammer in the $1000 price point. Nvidia could very well be working on a respin we'll see Titan X2 roll out with 100mhz higher clock speeds with the same TDP (and thus, higher OC headroom) a few weeks after 390x releases.
