Titan X

I'm considering to just go all out and get a titan x with a monitor upgrade down the line. I'm looking for a card that can last me at least 2 years minimum because by then I will most likely have saved up for something newer. Purchasing the current crop of cards with only 4gb vram seems like a fool's move to me and trust me I have made some foolish ones myself. A cheaper alternative might come (possibly 980ti) out but the titan X is just more appealing at the moment.

With the current crop of games nvidia's name seems plastered all over them thus they will mostly likely perform better even though AMD might catch up a few months down the road. The choice was between a gysnc monitor and this card but judging by the horror stories of the Acer Predator I think i'll hold out until QC is better.

I need some advice because in this field I'm pretty much a novice and needs a bit of schooling. On the other AMD's newer graphics card might be something to consider but again most of the games I want to play are nvidia backed. Will be coming from a 770 FWIW.

Also will a stock 4670k bottleneck the card?

Wait. The 980 Ti and R9 390X are coming within the next few weeks (late June at the latest). Both should be competitive with the Titan X (the 980 Ti may even beat it in most cases), but at least 25% cheaper.

Basically this. Shoot, rumors are 980 Ti might get some info this month (right? May 18 or something?).

I'd personally wait. (Which is what I'm patiently doing).

I'd advise waiting for the AMD cards even if you don't want them because you can expect the price on nvidia cards to shift to something more favorable.

Ok points have been taken into consideration. Also what do you think of the Acer predator should I take the plunge or wait to get a graphics instead because I want to upgrade both but not at the same.

I'd say the monitor will hold up just fine and be nice even before you get the card, although you'd likely have to run it at lower settings/res before you get the card.

On the other hand, I hear the Predator's have been having some issues so it might be worth waiting for their quality control to get dialed in. I'm using that to get myself to wait to see if LG comes out with one because I like their windowing management software.

I'm waiting on a 980ti. Just bought a new monitor the other day (1440p). I've got a gtx 770 2gb now. I'm definitely holding out for the 980ti. Rumors are that it might even be faster than titan x. Just with less ram. 6gb instead of 12.

If the 980ti is gm200 there is no way it will be faster. It may not even have the same core count.

The bigger problem with the X is that for the price it isn't premium enough. The stock cooler is rubbish for the price, the clocks are too low for the price, and the last time Nvidia shat out a Titan it was soon followed a 780 Ti and then Titan Black rendering those who brought an OG Titan screwed.

Would Nvidia realistically release a new Titan X Black this time? I thought they had pushed the 28nm tech as far as they could with the Titan X? Do you really think there is enough room to make a Titan X Black?

If you are starting fresh or upgrading, I would say definitely not. If you are upgrading, at the very least if you wait for amd's next offerings, you can get hbm technology. if you just a bit longer, you can get hbm + die shrink technologies. If you are starting fresh, just get something mid to lower garde (200-300 bucks) from either amd or nvidia for now, and upgrade when hbm and die shrink come into play.

You don't really have to wait that long. Discover Card 5% off + 10% off coupon (which you can still sign up for) on Tigerdirect will get you a Titan X for ~$866. If you stack it with another cashback offer 1-4% depending on the site you could cut it down to $825-856 range.

If the 980Ti/390X is coming at $799, the first month or so it's gonna be Newegg or Amazon only so you are looking at $870-880 after tax anyway.

I mean sure, you can wait until August/September to try to same gimmick on Tigerdirect with the 980Ti/390X and get it for $650 after cashback...if you want to wait until then.

Actually the people who bought Titan SLI at the beginning are sitting at a better place now especially at 1440P and 4K than those who bought multiple 780Tis. As for the Titan Black that was like a whole year later for 10% more performance.

I don't see what would justify it, Titan X is the full GM200 chip.

I mean I suppose they could release a special edition Titan down the road, with much higher clocks and an AIO water cooling solution like AMD is rumored to be doing with the 390X.

Nice to see a modicum of knowledge/wisdom on the forums -- shows you actually did read the reviews.

Overclocking on the Titan X is a compromised experience with the reference blower, a huge let down for NV to block any AIB from providing an after-market open air cooled solution despite a $1K USD ($1300 Euro, $1500 CDN) asking price.

85C which means you are near thermal throttle levels too.

OP, if you waited this long to upgrade from a 770, might as well wait 1-1.5 months to see what happens with R9 390X and the rumoured GTX980Ti. The Titan isn't going anywhere but there is a chance you can save yourself $200-300 and in the process get a much cooler and quieter videocard.

Stock TitanX seems perfectly reasonable to me and if an oc'd TitanX matches a stock GTX580 I'd be content with that. I couldn't really hear my 580's, or at least I didn't find them intrusive, but then again I don't have my rig on the desk next to me.

Don't buy a Titan X. Waste of money when the consumer GM200 and 390x are coming out very soon.
