Titanium Jewelry

I have a titanium dental implant. Titanium may be cheap, but this was definately not!

If you think an all-titanium wedding ring is cheap, you could always mix in some precious metals. We ordered our custom designs from a designer in New Zealand - gold, stones, whatever. The big advantage to me is the light weight.

try giving your fiance a titanium wedding ring...

Try "giving" a woman any kind of weeding ring without allowing her any kind of input. BTW, some women aren't all about dropping major $$ on a ring and value the uniqueness or meaning.

If you want to purchase jewelry made of titanium thats fine, however the prices on that website are much higher than the cost involved in producing the titanium rings. You are better off buying it from somewhere else.

The cost of the titanium material is very cheap so that is barely a factor in the price. The cost of labor is also a minimal factor because these looked to be machined made. The only other factors in cost would be polishing as well as setting (if you decide to get a ring with a stone in it) which are both not very expensive in labor. So what justifies the price of a $200-300 dollar ring that most likely cost less than $10 to make? Profit!

My ring says, ?What about that Biggie Coke on your desk? How much is syrup and some carbonated water? Yet you paid nearly two bucks for it.?

Everything seller is out for profit.
And most rings on that site are not $200 to $300. The ring I have from them was $90 or so, I believe, and that?s the price of a high end silver ring.

If you do not like titanium, whoopdedamndo, then don?t buy it.

I all comes down to personal taste. I love the look of titanium, and thinking about having my wife get me a Ti wedding band on our 10th anniversary. I currently have a 14k gold wedding band and it is badly nicked and scared.

The 1st poster is right, diamond (made of carbon) is market controlled and is NOT any more precious than gold. It is less.

however:

Titanium is NOT a hard metal. Titanium is actually rather soft. The reason why its strength is oft quoted and talked about is because of its ability to flex tremendously and still retain its shape. this is NOT the same as hardness.

For that reason, asserting that they cant cut the titanium off of you is absurd.

You shouldnt go spreading myths.

Funny reading when people talk about things as if they are experts but obviously they dont know much about the subject. Take a chemistry class or lookup titanium in a chemistry book. If you consider STEEL soft then, yeah, Titanium is soft. It has about the same strength.

Compared to gold it is AMAZINGLY hard. Most gemsmiths have instruments to work with softer metals and that is why they dont offer or say they "can't" cut it off.

Oh I forgot why I had originally wanted to reply - I own a titanium ring after doing a lot of research and here are my 2cents:

1. These prices are normal - titanium is fairly cheap because its really not considered a precious metal, its actually quite abundant.
2. I love my ring cause I dont like the weight other metals have. I sleep with mine on and everything cause I really dont notice it.
3. Titanium is VERY resistant to wear and corrosion so I never have to take it off for anything!
4. The only real drawback I could see is if it snags on something and there is a lot of force behind it - you're going to lose a finger before you the ring breaks.

I have a platinum ring we originally bought - I wear my titanium ring about 90% of the time.

In terms of a rescue situation, where people cut STEEL off you ALL the TIME, my comment was very relevant. Im not spreading any myths by saying that its softer than steel, and you're not telling a lie by saying its harder than gold. no need to over-react. god.

And btw, unless you wear 24K gold, you're probably going to lose a finger on a gold ring too.

Actually saying it is softer than steel IS a myth. or just plain wrong however you want to look at it. Do your homework. Most titanium jewelry that is sold is "aircraft grade" titanium which is a type of titanium that is harder than most steel.
