And here we have a classic example of the Average Joe who don`t know how GPUs scale.

Maybe its time you start reading what I`m writing: Techpowerup tested almost 20 games. You get a WAY better aspect on the average performance over two GPUs than a review that tested 4-5 games. I`m not saying that 3x7970s won`t crush Titan in some games (which TPU shows if you read the review), but it evens out the more games you have on your test bench.

Fanboy logic is the best logic.

Anyone running 3 xHD7970s rather than a single Titan seems a bit odd to me.
Even I would rather have a single beastie like Titan compared with all the hassle of 3 cards.
Still $1400 in Europe for a Titan is stupid expensive....hopefully they can come up with a cheaper version later this year.

Honestly, mate, don't waste your money. They're shit cards. 837 MHz? I know clock speed isn't everything, but they've done the 4-way SLI tests and the fact is that the numbers just don't impress like they are supposed to. I'm willing to bet 3-way SLI/CrossFire with a more developed line of VGAs (680/690/7970) is just as good, maybe even better. Hell, for $1000 you can buy three bloody 660 TIs and that will just do circles around a Titan. You need to wait for the series to expand, for them to design better iterations of the architecture, e.g. that's why a high-end 680 model (SuperClocked, FTW, whatever you want to call it) is better than the basic 690s. I haven't read the whole thread here, but I certainly hope you haven't bought it yet.

I had my Titan listed on the FS here and a few other forums @ below MSRP ... not one bite. Found a buyer on eBay but took a few days.

My guess is the cards aren't selling too well, there's just low stock (hence the 1 card per customer limit at Newegg etc).

They are available if you look. Personally, i'm hanging on for two GTX 770's when they come out. That should make me smile, and it would make you smile too after seeing them smashStroy a titan for less money.

You don`t get what I`m saying to you.

Example.

Assassin Creed. GTX Titan destroy 3x7970. And they scale badly.

Battlefield 3. 3x7970 completely destroy 1xTitan (over 2x the performance)

Borderlands. GTX Titan wins. 7970 scale badly

Sleeping Dogs. 3x7970 destroy Titan.

--------------------------------------------------------

And it goes on and on and on. From badly ported multiplat games, to bad scaling, to Nvidia having better optimizations, to physx making the difference, to excellent scaling with 3x7970, etc. When you test bigger amount of games you get a better view on the average performance.

We can argue all day long, throw examples at each other, I`m just posting whatever the TPU review found.

You can cherry pick crappy console ports all day long but BF3 the only game that isnt a port kicks the ass of Titan.

I have zero problems with both CF or SLI drivers in games and they always scale well for me. FACT.

690 GTX owns Titan

7970 CF owns Titan

NOT FORGETTING AT 2/3 OF THE PRICE!

Seems odd?

Anyone willing to drop that money on a Titan seems very odd to me.

Logic at it's best, 3x7970s is the derp version of titan.

3 times the power consumption, negative scaling, runt frames, yeah

BallaThe[GuyWhoIsABetterPersonThanMe] back again spouting off about negative scaling and runt frames when in fact there are clear examples around the net of good scaling in most games that people actually play. Also when AMD decide to meter the frames like Nvidia the runts will be come normal frames just like nvidia and you will have all the crappy screen tearing that comes with it also. Its not a fault its a rendering setup that AMD went for which will be user selectable.

Who cares about power usage when your buying 3x7970? Do you think Range Rover Sport drivers care about the 25mpg they get in their 100k cars?

PS: the money saved vs 1 Titan would fund the power usage for a very long time.

If you ever use that word in the tech forums again, it might be the last time you post here period. In the meantime you're gone for the next week. That kind of hate will not be tolerated in the technical forums

Scan had a MSI one for £275 over the weekend. 1ghz clock and unlocked volts

So you were comparing the most expensive Titan with the cheapest 7970 on a 1 day only offer?

I really don't see why you would resort to that level of trickery when it is blatantly obvious to everyone that the Titan is never going to be a value for money card.

You could have chosen a much fairer comparison and made your point without being sneaky.

One thing you can always count on in here is that Balla will find something nice to say about AMD cards. I open these threads just to see what pleasant discoveries he will share with us. What a neat compulsion. Can't wait for the next one.

Really Titan is not that fast, you can match it with just one overclocked 7970. Those charts are very misleading, if you get negative scaling you would normally disable CF/SLI yet those charts compute averages with CF/SLI enabled in such cases. Here titan is 22% faster then 7970GE
http://www.computerbase.de/artikel/grafikkarten/2013/test-nvidia-geforce-gtx-titan/7/

Overclocking tahiti by 25% will put it in the same performance ballpark as a stock titan.

The 7970 can't match Titan... maybe here and there when it's heavily overclocked but certainly not consistently enough to make such claim.

Asus matrix consistently OC to about 1250/1700 which is enough to match Titan. Unfortunately those cards are out of production.

Man what's up with all of the Hate. We are talking about Video cards not calling your kids ugly. 7970 and Titan are not even in the same League. AMD does not have a single card this gen to match the power of the Titan, plain and simple. You are going to have to wait..

EDIT: 1250/1700 is not enough to match the Titan -

Depending on the test suite, certainly those cards will perform in the same ballpark. In some games OC tahiti will be faster in others Titan.

What source site are you looking at that shows this?

EDIT: Better yet - why don't we find someone on the forums that has a 7970 that clocks that high and pit them against a member here that owns a titan (No overclock)... Should be fun

Even if you gave it a 20% OC and perfect scaling it's still a tier or two below stock Titan (If we called Titan the 780, than a 1260MHz 7970 would be slower than a cut version of Titan and compete (losing like the 680 competes against GHz) against that.

If you flashed Titan or even hardmod it than you're into another realm that GHz will never see.
