tmobile got the Note 2 this morning

You can NOT use a prepaid SIM with this thing, I just tried. So instead of 30 dollars a month it looks like I will be spending 65 or so.

I didn't read the entire thread but call T-mobile and tell them you're traveling abroad in a week and need an unlock code.
The phone will be unlock and you can cancel your contract and do as you please.
T-mobile still have a $200 ETF which I'm surprised they haven't raised for their premium phone.

i believe if you register your old number with google voice it allows your new phone to work with your old phone number. i'm not sure if you can do this if you already lost your old number.

I agree that buying outright is the best option. There are mixed answers if we can buy outright from tmobile and I do not think anyone else is selling it yet

Nope.

Did your local samsclub have them in stock?
I think I wil purchase outright from att in a couple weeks when my contract is up. Unless they announce an unlocked us version. I thought about Verizon but they have their name all over the phone

The 30 dollar unlimited data is ONLY for new contracts. Meaning a new number. You can NOT convert any current SIM and/or phone on or off contract over to that plan. You will need to buy a new SIM for a dollar and activate it with that plan. You cant switch out of it. If you do then you will never be allowed to go back.
I hated giving up my old number, especially cuz it was from Tmobile and I didnt think I'd have to.

Port your existing number to a Google Voice account then foward that number to your new cell :sneaky:

Just make sure to use up all the credits on the account before you.

There's a HoFo thread on how people have been able to have their credit transferred to a Wal-Mart plan/activation.

Just takes some customer service rep lottery, I think.

Looks like the two best prepaid options are the $30 walmart special, or the $50 Simple Mobile plan.

$30 is limited to 100minutes of talk and 5gb data before they cut you to edge. $50 plan is completely unlimited as far as I can tell.

For cheap high-minutes/high-data you want Straight Talk T-Mo flavor, which does *not* have the same 2gb cap as the AT&T version.

LOL. I just bought mine today, and I do agree. But only when it's in my hand. The super-thin size, and lack of any real bezel turn it back into a phone when it's in my pocket.

Also, while I've never owned a tablet, three of my four roommates have iPads, so I've used tablets a fair bit, and was considering an Asus Transformer before I got this, but not anymore. (and yeah, welcome to NYC, where dropping $500 on a tablet is no big deal, but you still have to have four roommates to make the rent :| )

I'm largely considering the Note 2 to replace my iPhone 4S and iPad 2. I don't use my iPad 2 as much as I used to, and being able to have USB OTG is better than the SD adapter for when I'm using my iPad to edit pictures.

The "4g" is about 15-16 mbit.

Oh, the device itself is capable of much higher speeds. Supposedly it will work on Tmobiles future 4g which will be closer to 40 or 50.
