My 1550v came with a dead pixel which bummed me, but then I noticed a contrast problem with an area of the screen a good inch in diameter so I called NEC and got an RMA and the new one was/is perfect. That's the only and last time I intend to buy from Buy.com it was just the price was the best deal at the time. I also have a Dell ultrasharp 15" LCD and 15" TFT on my 900z and both are perfect from the get go.

My first samsung syncmaster 171s had one dead pixel in the middle of the panel. Thankfully this was a week after I got the LCD and I got a new one. It has yet to develop a dead pixel.

I just got an LCD (BenQ FP567s), it has no dead pixels but 3 lit pixels. They are all white and I can't see them unless I'm on a black background. Even then I have a hard time finding them. Still, it kinda bothers me knowing that something on the monitor is not perfect so I might ask for a replacement.

I also have a CRT which has a dead pixel, which is infinitely more annoying to me. Most of the time I'm on a light background so I can always see that, while the lit pixels on my LCD blend in.

Out of 3 15" flat pan's only 1 dead pixel. The sharpie marker trick worked!!

Since I have never had a perfect LCD I now have a complex when I go to open up a new one. Yesterday I could barely look at my 1800FP
because I didnt want to see any dead pixels.......dammit one pure dead , it looks like a speck of pepper , what is nice is its 3/4" in from the
right side of the screen. I also thought I had three other but now I think its only two more stuck pixels which are not nearly as easy
to see as the fully dead one.
It would be nice to have a perfect LCD just once so I have a replacment on the way. I am going to be very nervous opening that one.
If the new one has dead pixels as well then I will just keep the better of the two LCDs.

So I am 0 for 2 ... zero perfect LCDs.

That's what I did..sounds crude and rude but nobody noticed it..and I hardly pay any attention to it anymore. Use a new sharpie for best results..............

The dead pixel likely let light shine through from the backlight. He blotted it out with a sharpie marker.

I am at work at the moment, we have 11 LCD screens running at the moment, none have dead pixels. The screens are all different kinds, Compaq Laptops, LG 17" flatscreens, samsung 15" flatscreens, sharp 15" LCD video monitors

But none are as cool as the two massive plasma displays on the wall

Go to Monitors Direct and test out your screen for dead pixels.

I bought an Envision 17" from Staples. Got it home and it had a glowing red pixel right in the middle of the screen. Took it back and tested 2 others. The second had no dead pixels so I exchanged it. That was in April 2002. Almost a year ago and no dead pixels still.

My wife actually said to me one time that she likes our LCD monitor! I about fainted. She also likes the cable internet. Now if I could only get her to understand why I need a new hard drive everytime there is a deal. You can't win them all...

CTX 17" here, no dead pixels either. Uneven backlighting seems to be becoming a problem though, there is a definite "bloom" effect from the two vertical sides. Only 6 months old.

When you got your LCD did you have any? If you have never had a dead pixel can I ask what model LCD you have and how long for?

Also are dead pixels more common to have when you open the box, or are they more likely to crop up down the road after like 6 months of use or whatever.

I have two LCDs:

1. SGI 1600SW -- I've had this for about 3 years now. 0 dead pixels when I got it, 0 dead pixels now.
2. Dell FP1800+ -- I've had this for about a week now. No dead pixels.

I also have three laptops from various manufacturers, none of which has any dead or stuck pixels. From my personal experience I'd say that finding dead pixels is rare, at least in quality products.

I just got my RMAed 1800FP and it has no dead pixels , however it has a hair or something stuck in between the protective screen and the LCD...its about the size of an eyelash hair . Its worse than the other one with dead pixels.
I already have a 3rd unit on the way.
I paid $415 for the monitor delivered , Dell can forget about making any money from this transaction.

So now I am 3 bad , 0 good

I pretty much expect the next one to have something wrong with it.

I just tapped the hair out of sight.

Crap now Dell has already sent me another and this one is perfect. They will want this one back. I may have to switch out LCDs if the new
one is imperfect.
