omg. let it die. I am one of the most devoted people to the christian faith any of you will ever meet, but arguing on an internet forum isn't the right way to spread the message. I have succesfully preached to only one person on any internet forum, and he was already on his way to understanding the truth of scripture. If some one wants to be an atheist sobeit, scripture does sayt "the fool hath said in his heart there is no god", but my continual berading of someone will not change their mind.

Can christians listen to trance?

Also, damnit, they need to export those shows to Asia. I haven't even heard of those shows before, other than the incredibly old SG movie. Grr....

SG=StarGate, the eternally best TV show (SciFi or otherwise?)

This thread is now officially HiJacked, and is now about StarGate.

To be honest, I love your argument. There is no sarcasm here.

In my readings, I've come across that cost-benefit analysis and to be honest really peaks my attention. Theoretically, it would be better to live a lie (assuming there is no God) to reap the rewards than to not believe and suffer the consequences. From a purely rational standpoint, this argument is the ONLY convincing one I've heard that makes a valid case for believing in a higher power.

I've been thinking about your argument OP for the past 3 years -- the juries still out on it.

How can you just believe in something? I seriously doubt you'd be able to fake your way into your perfered afterlife

i never said that im faking it.

I had a housemate who said she always faked it. She was annoyed she could never have a real one.

This argument is called Pascal's Wager, and it has been thoroughly discredited.

My wife had that problem 'til she met me... I'm not saying I'm anything special, just that we clicked so well that great things happen when we have sex.
Sexual compatibility is definately a meaningful aspect of a relationship, and speaking of Christianity, how would one know if one were to abstain?

I read a quote from somewhere, I forgot who said or where, but it went something like "If there is a God, I don't believe him to be so vain as to be offended by my not believe in him".

This is what I believe. I don't need to follow your particular flavor, I have faith in my own way.

I will say to you what I have said to others like you....what do you care about my soul?

Why is it any of your business what I believe and what I do not?

I would think that you could do more productive things in your life than try to convince me that I am wrong and you are right...perhaps take a homeless person into your home, feed them, give them clothing, give them the means to an education help them get a job, feed a starving child and by that I mean actually prepare them a meal and give it to them. Help build a home for people who have none. Help with the elderly and serve them, visit a nursing home and keep them company when no one else will.

Your life as a righteous man will be far more fullfilling if you do these things. Unless of course your idea of fullfillment is sitting on your ass at a keyboard starting flamebait threads trying to convince others you are right and they are wrong. Believe me if you do the things I suggested above you will be FAR to busy to concern yourself with what happens to others who do not share your beliefs and thier lives beyond this one.

Otherwise you are nothing but a hypocrite like about 85% of the self-righteous Christians I have encountered in my lifetime.

you're going about it the wrong way. christiananity shouldn't be some back-up plan when you die. the purpose of believing/worshipping god is not the avoidence of hell. and all stargates suck.

Why don't you believe in those other 50,000 religions? If they are wrong no bad can come from it, and if they are right so much good can come from it!

We were made for worship.

I'm not religious. I hate religion. I hate man-made religion. I hate religiosity.

I hate boring church. I hate living a lie.

I love freedom. The funny thing about the Kingdom is that, it's the opposite of this world. The weakest link there, is the strongest. The more you surrender, the more free you become.

I love Jesus. I live for him. Call me a "Crrrrristian"(say it with a Victorian accent if you will), or whatever. I'm not that religious.

I'm a world changer. Call me weird. Call me crazy. I love being weird. I called Jesus weird the other day when talking with him, as a compliment.

Tis the best life.

because I'm not christian....

is organized religion a good thing? That's a question that I think needs answering. Organized religion breeds fundementalism and a perversion of great ideas. Every religion has its share of fundementalists; they prey on the ignorance/needs of the masses to fulfill their own agenda be it power, money etc. Maybe Lennon was right, maybe no religion would be a good idea. Look at the problems in the Middle East that would be solved.

So much good can come from religion? Have you been living under a rock?

afterlife......also the only reason i made this thread was because my history teacher brught it up in class

There is no afterlife.

proof it

There may be a afterlife, but a heaven I'm sure there isn't. No more sorrow and no more pain is just too unrealistic and brews only depression. This means that there would be no more challenge to being there. Humans like ups and downs, that's what makes one moment better than the other. If everything was cool, then everything would be mediocre. Think of spoiled brats who are never content with anything, even though they are handed everything. Another thing is the drive of life. We feel the need to live because of the knowledge that we are going to die someday. If we never die, then what's the point. I have all the time in the world. It may even get depressing since there may never be any change. Imagine if you are depressed in heaven already, since everything is good, and then you think it's gonna be like this forever. It's like eternal torture. Proof enough, that humans wouldn't last there. Conflict is a part of us. No conflict, no us.

...I will, just as soon as you prove which one is the correct God to worship.

Wait, forget it, I'll take my chances.

Good one, I wish more bible thumpers would do this. Maybe they could convert others by example. But don't come bothering me at my home or my job while I'm trying to fck my dog to tell me that I should believe in god.

...if I did, then I wouldn't be able to fck my dog.
