concert photos w/o flash are next to impossible not to blur. a mini-tripod is about your only bet, sadly enough

you need to use a higher shutter speed, and since it is so dark in there, a low F stop. experiment in a dark room similar to that one (maybe turn the lights down in your room or some room in your house and experiment there).

1/8th of a second is really slow. you should be using at least... 1/60th... 1/30th in the most extreme cases. depends on the application.

When its dark, you camera needs to compensate to allow more light in, thus taking a longer exposure...

Shutter Speed: 1/8 sec is your problem.

Its very hard to hand hold a shot with such a slow speed. Try using a tripod, or in the alternative, balance the camera on something.

I dunno if you can truely adjust the shutter speed on the T1.

Try increasing the ISO (if you can with that camera) - that will allow you to use faster shutter speeds in low light. The downside is that increasing the ISO will make the noise worse.

The blur is due to having too slow a shutter speed. On average, the minimum shutter speed a person needs to get a decent exposure without motion blur is 1/90 (even at 1/90 you need to be holding your breath and concentrating on holding still)...So your shot at 1/8th shutter just never had a chance.

Unfortunately you're in a VERY challenging predicament; A concert is low light, but you've got the performers running around.

I'm not familiar with the Sony T1, but if you're able to...You NEED the FASTEST shutter speed you can get (at the very least of 1/90th shutter, but even if you could hold it still at that speed, the performers running around will probably still give you blur...I'd say you need something more like 1/180th or higher speed).

As such, in order to get more of 1, you've got to give up something on the others (exposure is basically about shutter, aperture and ISO)...So in that situation you've got to play around with using the biggest aperture (but a smaller area around the focused spot will be in focus) or start using higher ISO (which means grainier pictures)

Good luck.

Bump up your ISO setting to the max, which will allow you to use the highest speed, then use something like Neat Image to fix the noise.

1) IF you bump the ISO settings up, you will have MAJOR noise issues. This is a major problem with point and shoot cameras. Even my G3 doesn't produce nice images at ISO400.
2) 1/8 second shutter speed. Your hand can't hold anything still for more than 1/30th of a second. 1/60 is even safer.

The Sony T1's lense will not be able to give you a very large aperture setting, so you're really screwed for the shutter speed. You will need a tripod, but then the problem is EVERYONE ELSE is moving, and so your image will still be blurry (except for the still parts like the stage).

Not enough light, lens too slow. You need a faster lens but since you can't change lenses I guess a tripod might help. You're really kind of screwed trying to take pictures in such low light with a point and shoot camera though.

Ya definitely needed a steady camera mount for that one, now I've been able to shoot up to 1/4th of a second with my Nikon N75(i'm old school) without camera shake at all just by holding it up by hand but holding my breath and using objects around me to keep my hands/arms steady but in a rock concert that isnt going to happen at all

Would using a flash help? I didn't use one because I wasn't sure if flash photography was allowed in the venue.

flash isn't going to light up anything on that stage

He's way too far away for a flash to be useful.

What everyone else said, ISO 400, The lowest Fstop you can go, high shutter speed, and use a tripod in low light situations.

The problem is with a P&S camera, all that is going to mean unsharp, noisy images. But it's better than it being as blurry as that.
