Like previous posters have mentioned, your brother suffers from substance abuse problems and/or a psychological condition which causes a dependency on the drug. Replace pot with alcohol, tobacco, or any other drug and you will end up with the same equation. Unfortunately, your cases is one of many ISOLATED cases related to people who a.) overuse, b.) are dependent, or c.) lack self-control. It's easy to blame the drug for his problems because it seems to be the direct cause of the problem. The bottom line is that your brother, and your brother alone, is responsible for his body and how he treats it - nobody else can take responsibility for that, and most of all, certainly NOT the government.

You mentioned in his post that he started to try other stuff - it's possible that pot is not to blame but harder stuff like acid, shrooms, or possibly methamphetamines - but I'm no drug expert. People say pot is a gateway drug to other drugs, but I disagree - I think the 'desire' to try harder and harder substances arises from the individual need to escape or not have to confront larger issues or problems at hand, rather than to try to alter your perceptions or relax on a regular basis. The problem is in the individual, not the substance.

Well, the thing is I did my share of weed in Highschool.. The problem is, it does lead to fvcking (some) peoples lives up. There is a reason it is illegal. (and yes I know that the next argument coming is alchohol)

I know its not the pot that is fvcking him up so much.. However it is the pot that leads him to other things.

The truth of the matter is that you can take two different people can use pot, where one person lives a normal life and another chooses to use other drugs and "ruins" his/her life. Clearly, the problem is NOT the pot, it's the personality of the person who chooses to use other drugs. Pot is, for the most part, not chemically adictive, but it can be mentally adictive. Certain people are more prone to abusing substances than others, and it's a gamble you make. Either you're strong and resist the temptation or get help, or you sucumb to it.

nobody has died from too much pot. EVER. How many college kids drink themselves to death annually......alot.....how many ppl smoke themselves to death ....millions.......how many ppl die from aspirin each year more than zero......idiot.

Not sure what percentage are in college, but approximately 5,000 people a year in the US alone die of overdosing on alcohol (ie. alcohol poisoning), and it's estimated to kill ten times that many per year in the US when mixed with driving. I don't have numbers on cirrhosis of the liver and other drinking-related physical maladies, nor on how the addiction to it ruins lives, as it's physically addictive, unlike marijuana.

Am I the only one getting the feeling the OP is just trolling? It's just so unexpected to see it from someone with a fair number of posts and a reputation (not that post count means anything, but if it was his first post there'd be no doubt, you know what I'm saying?)

Your blame is misplaced. If it wasn't pot, it would be something else. Many people seek something outside themselves in order to deal with their emotional or mental imbalances. The root problem lies in the individual, not in the thing they choose as their vehicle of escape.

As for the safety of pot, what in life is safe? Five times as many people in the US die in car accidents every year than die from illicit drug use. Should we outlaw cars? And how many of those 10,000 who die from illicit drug use every year die from abusing marijuana? 0
So marijuana use may not be "safe", but it is certainly safer than other drugs. Don't get me started on the tens of thousands of people who die every year from legal druge use, i.e. alcohol abuse. And yet should we outlaw that? No, because the overwhelming majority of people who use alcohol never ever have a single abuse-related problem with it. We should not live in a world where a few bad apples are allowed to ruin it for everyone, or where grown men are forced to drink skim milk because the baby can't eat steak.

Long story short: sorry to hear about your brother, but if you truly want to help him, you might want to start dealing with his real problems instead of searching for a scapegoat. Best wishes.

I can shoot the theory down that pot leads to harsher drugs. I smoked enough dope to make a raft that would float three cuban families on it from the time I was 15-25 and I was but I never had no desire to do crank,Acid or Cocaine.Oh, I used to smoke hash and Tai stick when it came down the grape vine but they are pretty much in the same class as weed.
