Well he does have a bit of a point. I would never smoke pot that one of my friends didn't personally grow - I had bought some previously that must have had some other stuff mixed with it and it was not a fun ride.

Another reason to legalize - stuff like that would be watched.

I don't know about you but I enjoy getting drunk. The bottom line is that it's my body, and I can do with it whatever the hell I want. I don't need the government protecting me from myself.

An amazing thing about politically fueled studies is that they almost always find whatever those paying for the research want to find. Those with agendas have an inexplicable habit of finding someone else to pay if researchers don't find what they want to hear.

How can pot kill you? What would you say if you found out it was illegal for financial reasons rather than safety?

Regardless, it's none of anyone's business what others do in the privacy of their own homes, so long as it doesn't intrude on anyone else's rights.

You are right, alcohol should be made illegal. And cigarettes. And skydiving, as that is pretty dangerous as well. Also, make it illegal to live in cities with lots of smog, as that is another health hazard. Also rock climbing.. people could fall off and die. Who cares if they enjoy it - it's obviously wrong. :roll:

I'm becoming more and more disturbed as I see these opinions become prevalent lately. It is *NOT* the right or responsiblity of the government to prevent us from hurting ourselves. The government enumerates our freedoms and enacts laws to keep us from denying those freedoms from others. That's why murder is illegal, it prevents others from having the right to life, etc.

People enjoying an activity that has no effect on anyone who doesn't want to participate is perfectly legal and should remain that way! I know some simpleton will want to chime in and say "but drunk drivers kill people!" Yes, but that is why "drunk driving" is illegal and not alcohol or the consumption of it. Get it?

You people who are so for a nanny goverment to tell you exactly what you can do, when you can do it, and whom you can do it with, have missed the point, entirely. No wonder we keep getting such stupid laws passed. There is no reason for pot to be illegal. There is no reason to give up the right to a lawyer or phone call if one is "suspected" of terrorism. There is no reason people *have* to wear a helmet when riding their motocycle. People should be expected to take responsibility for thier own lives and actions, not expect others to do it for them.

Honestly, I dont care what people do in their own home, but so many people go out and start driving when they are high or drunk, and that makes it mine and any other person on the road's buisiness.

If anything, they should make getting caught driving drunk(dui/dwi) a much larger offence. Or maybe a built in breathalizer in the car, and it wont start if your drunk. That could save alot of lives.

Well after reading this entire thread it seems like there are some people that need to do a lot of reading Here. Then again it is nice to read a lot of the posts made by informed, aware, posters. I don't know how many of you actually don't have control over your actions, but I have never had any substance FORCE me to do anything. Granted I have made a few unwise decisions while drunk, I still have control over my body. I am a big believer in people making their own decisions, accept consequences accordingly. That being said I don't know how this whole "gateway drug" sh!t got started. Obviously if someone can't appreciate a buzz for what it is and just wants to abuse drugs then, yes, they are always going to be looking for "the harder stuff". I guess the government just chose marijuana as the scapegoat because they realize people are getting more informed.

So to all the people that automatically jump on the "pot is evil always leads to bad drugs" bandwagon you should do a little reading at erowid.

BTW: Most of the "bad" drugs are usually nasty man-made chemicals, or chemicals that are refined by man. Whereas marijuana is a plant that grows naturally. THC is just some harmless carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen molecules.

Er, the only drug smoking pot leads to is insulin, which you invoke by eating tons of sugary things when stoned :laugh: Seriously, not only is pot NOT a gateway drug, but the entire concept of a 'gateway drug' is bullshit in the first place, a story cooked up by the DEA & Partnership because decriminalizing pot would put 80% of them on unemployment lines and cut into the various revenue paths going from alcohol & tobacco companies to government coffers. Further, people need someone to blame, a scapegoat to victimize with accusing fingers. A lot of time, effort, and money has gone into making pot that scapegoat and the powers that be don't want to waste that.

More often than not, someone who sells pot also has acces to the bad sjit.
