To be clear, 32 versus 64 meg storage on phone will not affect performance, right?

Isn't the 16/32/64/128 megabyte ratings for the phones talking about storage, the equivalent of hard drive storage in a PC? And so as long as you've not filled it up performance will not be affected between the models? I thought this was the case, but a Sprint representative told me my phone was slow because I don't have enough storage (I have 16 mb S4), but I looked and I still have tons of free space. Phone is bugged I believe because I literally have to reset it every couple months back to factory to get it to work right. Just wanting to make sure I'm not crazy about the storage thing.

Some models might have reduced bandwidth for smaller capacities, just like for desktop SSDs. But generally speaking, no capacity doesnt matter for performance. It's Gigabytes btw, not megabytes. 32MB is like from 2002.

Kinda sorta. SSDs do slow down when near max capacity. Also depending on chip layout the larger capacity may have more bandwidth, same as SSDs. Its probably not the sort of performance difference you'll notice you your phone though. Wonder if there have been any reviews on memory bandwidth scaling on phones?

Beyond the obvious, the only performance issue I've ever seen related to low available memory is that Google Play won't download updates or new apps even when there's sufficient room (e.g., you have 400MB available and the app or update takes up considerably less space than that).

Didn't Anandtech do some? I think they were testing TRIM support and trying to gauge how the memory might slow down over time? Been like years since they did that though I believe? And I think it was Anand who did them.

I thought they did more in depth testing, but this is the best article I could find:

So it is possible, as a Galaxy S4 would've been out probably before that update, so if the OP didn't update Android, it could be leading to those issues. And the fix for it was to reset the phone every so often.

Yes, phones with lower storage capacity, even with modern proper TRIM support, will start to wear our the storage memory much faster than larger capacities, especially if both phones with different max capacities still hold the same overall amount of user data storage. So, 13/16GB of storage and 13/32GB of storage, the former will wear out faster if you are doing the same number of writes with regular usage.

On older phones, it is even more of an issue as TRIM wasn't supported at all.

But if you only ever have maybe 8GB of storage consumed, and it stays that way for 2 years, you likely won't notice any drastic change in read/write performance.

i think it won't affect perf. the only downside is you won't be able to dl as many apps as much as you wanted coz of limited space
