definitely i use a mouse for doing work in sql server/excel/coding/xmlspy/edinotepad i can't get the copy paste resolution that i can with a mouse. but for surfing love it.

i paid $38 at cowboom for mine. there's about 3 or 4 of them around here. guess alot of folks returned them and they had a blowout on open box product. all were perfect minus 2 batteries. is there a place to get them cheaper?

Are you using menus for Copy/Paste? Does CTRL/CMD+C/V not work?

Also, are you saying that you got the Magic Trackpad for $38? Guh... lucky... /napoleon dynamite

I think he meant highlighting portions of texts.

I'd agree that that's quite a chore on the Magic Trackpad or any trackpad for that matter... It's one of the tasks that are much easier and more precise on any mouse.

Ah, well why didn't he say so?! That's a horse of a different color!

Well, naturally, when it's editing scripts and texts, that's the first thing that comes to my mind. Though I generally only do Shift + Command + Back Arrow then release Command and press Up Arrow a few times when I'm coding.

I have a Magic Trackpad I got for Christmas. It's been a little sporadic lately.. lots of jumpy cursor behavior. Seems to be when there's any type of I/O activity on my system. Might be the Bluetooth adapter I'm using, or a compatibility issue with my Hack. Seems to work perfectly with my Macbook Pro.

As for the Trackpad itself. I love it. I've tried going back to a mouse and it's just not the same. The gestures are great and I find it much more enjoyable to use all day.

more than 1 page of text i can handle small cut and pastes easily but monstrous views or other stuff the trackpad is impossible. I like mouse and keyboard combo. then again i type alot faster on a microsoft 4000 than a straight keyboard

For those using it on a Hack, which bluetooth adapter do you use?

I first tried a $5 bluetooth adapter and I did not work. Then I got the D-Link DBT-120 for $13 off of ebay and it works perfectly.
I use:
Mighty Mouse
Trackpad
Apple Wireless Keyboard
Holux GPS

I'm pretty sure but I'v been moving a lot and my Hackintosh is at my parent's house.

Let's say that I'm 90% sure?

haha, no worries. Well i'll likely keep using my USB keyboard (logitech illuminated), so even if not I can still wake it that way.

I agree with the general consensus here that if you're used to it on your MBP, you'll love it just as much on your iMac, it just sucks for gaming. The placement to the right, or left of your keyboard is odd at first since we're all used to the trackpad beneath the keyboard but that is it really. Everything else works just like the MBP trackpads. I love mine.

I think I'll buy one, then. I just read the preview of Lion on Engadget and it looks like it opens up new possibilities.

I am expecting Apple to start bundling the Magic Trackpad with new iMacs with the next refresh, certainly by the time Lion comes out. Lion plays on the gestures so much more than Snow Leopard, and watching the Apple guy try to use the Magic Mouse up on stage at the Lion preview was just painful.

Now, all we need is a TrackPoint (with scroll button) for desktops

Take it, the trackpads on mac laptops are likely some of the best.

Just got it the other day. Love it. Keeping my mouse handy for gaming but the trackpad suits me for 99% of everything.

I loved it, but there was no real good place for it on my desktop sadly It just got in the way wherever it was and the angle it was at made it uncomfortable where I settled on having it.

I use a trackball+mouse combo normally so I'm sticking with that for now. But I still think about getting a magictrackpad and dealing with the awkward positioning.
