Kind of off topic, but just realize that the price didn't come down for no reason at all.
This next quarter the company is expected to loose $.10 cents a share. Last year it EARNED $.64 cents a share. Next quarter the company said they expected to break even $.00 a year ago that same quarter AMD earned $.53 cents a share.

Now do you see why the price war has driven down the price of the stock? AMD has a billion in cash in the bank, so there is no need to worry about the loss next quarter, but the share price is certainly accurately reflecting the change in the company's fortunes.

On the other had. Buy low and sell high and if this gets you interested in investing GO FOR IT.

I personally wouldn't.

I am, though, considering to buy some NVDA stocks some time around December.

That actually is a good move after the recent drop off.

This is the time to buy.

Not just AMD but many other stocks.

There are a lot of bargains out there now.

This is quite a bit off topic and should really be in the OT forum but...

I currently own AMD. Looking to get some Cisco, EMC, possibly Nvidia, all for the longterm. I'm only 25 so I think I can wait out the return of the Bull.

[edit] Oh yeah, Nokia (NOK) looks pretty good for the long term too! The telco industry won't stay down forever...

I bought 11k worth of Airline shares today

Well if I had the money I would too. Despite the reaming the airlines are taking right now, long range forecast show passenger traffic to proabbly double in the next 10 years. Getting the stock now as low as it is, probably will be the only way to ever make money on airline stock!

That is if they do not fold in the next few months.

true, but airlines (TWA for example) have operated for long times under chapter 11 bankruptcy and were able to recover. I think the only airlines that will fold, if any, are the ones like America West or other smaller niche market airlines.

agree just remember combined losses per day estimated at 1billion per day.

not to mention the 50,000 employees that will not have a paycheck soon...
that is a tragedy (sp?) in its self.

Actually RAMBUS just went us a ton yesterday due to renewed relationship with Intel announcement.

I'm not comfortable investing in RAMBUS. They've completely pissed off a lot of manufacturers who would have licensed their patents, and they will be under heavy pressure with DDR333 and QDR (quad data rate) RAM in the future.

Never thought i'd say this, but intel seems like a good investment too, they're probably at a long time low, and intel, as much as i detest them, is still the major player in the business, and a very good company to invest in.

amd is lower than the lowest i've ever bought them (bought them at 18 before the split, and before athlon), so i'm getting very tempted.

they had a lead in the mhz race. even though the whole mhz thing doesnt mean performance, to most consumers it does. their stock didnt evne go up that much when they had the lead and were making money. now they dont have the mhz or performance lead (at least at this moment with 1.4 tbird vs 2.0 p4) and well they are dead. short them. this is from a pure investment standpoint. i hope they continue to do well and provide competition and make better chips, but their ASPs have got to be less than $80 right now, considering their top end chip is $110 on pricewatch

Have to agree with hans007. AMD is a poor choice of an investment right now. There are thousands of other companies to invest with. Don't fall in love with anyone of them. I own an AMD machine, but I wouldn't buy AMD
stock right now. This price war is gonna hurt everyone, but AMD with only 20% of the market and mostly in the low margin consumer market is gonna take it hard.

After rising up for a little while, AMD is getting the smack laid down on it by Intel. Intel is just using their massive production power and squeezing AMD to death. The Giant has finally decided to squash the little gnat.

AMD was a good buy when they had equal performance to Intel for a lot lower price, but now Intel has that advantage AND Intel has much bigger brand recognition. I wouldn't buy AMD. I'm an AMD stockholder, so I'm hoping beyond hope that they bounce back, I bought it at 14, so I'm not in to bad of shape, but I know a guy who bought AMD at 40!

It's too bad because I like AMD, but they are in deep shlt.

I actually bought in our local Airline. It's in a lot of trouble and just had to cease operations on one of its subsidiaries (16,000 jobs were lost )

I bought the shares at .32c NZ which is about 20% of their worth a year ago.

Because tourism is such a huge industry here, I think the Goverment will bail them out after they have done Due Diligence.

Fingers crossed
