To DDR or not to DDR?

Hey, for the past week I've been reading endless reviews about the new DDRam and the motherboards which support it. I'm prepared to build a comp with these specifications.

AMD Thunderbird 1.2Ghz (266fsb)

*Asus A7V-KT133A OR *Asus A7A-266

My debate is over the two motherboards above. I want to know how much of an overall performance I will see by going with the A7A with 256mb DDRam as opposed to staying old school with the A7V and 512mb SDRam PC133 CAS2? Is the extra money for a DDR supported mainboard and DDRam itself actually worth it?

last i checked, crucial ddr pc2100 was the exact same price as pc133 sdram

the motherboards are only nominally more, like 10-30 dollars

the increase in speed is noticeable if that's what you're asking but only
it seems if the chipset is up to snuff.

For your system, I think you can get the Epox 8k7a, the perennial DDR fave
in this forum for around 130.00 various places and go to
www.crucial.com/webpromo and put anything u want in company name
blank and get 256meg of PC2100 DDR for 50 bucks.....free shipping

at that price it makes the PC133 option simply laughable


now rambus is a completely different matter

There is no price difference on ram at crucial, unless prices have changed in the last day or two....Get an Epox 8K7A board...DDR...Stick that chip in it...Enjoy

See, it's wierd. I'm in Canada and the best wholesale price I found for the DDRam is nearly twice the price as the PC133, honestly. www.ncix.com

Btw, where can I find that epox board online from a company that's in Canada and sells for a good price?
