Top and botttom ads, those I can deal with. But putting a freaking huge ad on the left side of the screen makes me less motivated to subscribe. Aside from the fact that my 56K line is currently the limiting factor, and I don't use PMs that much.

Why they couldn't put it on the right side, where it is less likely to piss people off and cause a mass exodus of non-subscribers, is beyond me. I can understand the ad provider not wanting it at the bottom of the page, but to dictate that it must be on the left side is fvcking retarded.

It kinda sucks that I'm being kinda "pushed" into subscribing... there's no real benefits for me except for the ads on the left - it's really bothersome. Now, I wish they just accepted American Express, then I'd be all set...

The only thing stopping is I'm just a poor college student, but with summer approaching I might have money! And hey, why not support people who I like, but recently I'm kinda not liking Anandtech... those articles aren't coming fast enough, the thick wallet place is starting to get real good on deals, the Highly Technical is getting a bit dry, etc.

And that's a sure way to prevent some people (like me) from subscribing. Provide positive benefits to being a subscriber, and I'd gladly do it (if I had a credit card), but try to annoy me into subscribing with BS like this, and you'll find that I not only don't subscribe but try to find ways around your intrusive ads also. :frown:

I make a buttload of money. It's not about if I can afford it or not. I just don't see the need to pay for a little speed in this chat room forum. Even if it was only $1. I browse through these forums to kill time and I usually have three or four things going on at a time -- email, tv tuner, IRC, ATOT, etc. I click and switch. If it takes 1 sec to load, or 10 secs to load -- BFD. Ads don't bother me unless they are pop-ups.
