I've started jogging to get into better shape and lose whatever fat I've got. At the same time (as per advice on the web) I've started a bodyweight exercise regimine to avoid burning muscle instead of fat.
Of course, I'm also looking for the appropriate diet to accompany this whole ordeal... the only thing I didn't want to give up was my breakfast (orange, oatmeal with milk). Then I started looking through the various foods finding high-protein, high-fiber stuff that had all the nutrients I needed. Most of the advice I read says to eat 40% carb, 40% protein, 20% fat for each meal, but also to avoid refined carbohydrates.
I'm wondering now if there's anything wrong with eating just legumes? Specifically lentils, mung beans, black beans, etc. They provide a good deal of protein, and all the vitamins found in grains in even larger quantities except Selenium (which they still provide a decent source of). They also provide carbohydrate. The only thing they lack is fat, which can be added in with a bit of olive oil.
The way I see it I run/walk in the morning and eat the grain (oatmeal), and do weight type stuff in the afternoon while eating legumes. Anyone see a problem in all this?
