<< Fabrication facility construction is a multi-year project -- to build a fab from the ground up and have it churning out chips in under two years, to my knowledge, has never been done. AMD and Intel fabs tend to follow a three year construction schedule. So you see, my skeptism lies in the fact that the core of the PS3, this IBM produced chip, can't possibly be fabbed before 'Midway through NEXT YEAR'. >>
Indeed, these are very valid points, but who is to say that the PS3 won't be throttled back from previously established specs, if they need to release it earlier? Perhaps the PS3 will be made from chips that can be produced on current fab lines. Sony could release a "PS2.5" and still call it a PS3.
