to newegg refurb buy or not is the question

just looking for some opinions/info on going with a newegg refurb motherboard or to buy the retail option for another $33. (I am going to upgrade an older system with an ABIT NF7-S V2.) I can get the refurb for $49 or the retail for $82. (I am getting other stuff too in then same purchase so want to stick with newegg)...

Well, refurb has higher instance of issues, of course. It all depends on how much $33 means to you.

yeah.. and duh, i just read closer and realized they dont include the accessories which i need.. and would make it even less a savings.. thanks

well i am assuming buying a couple cables and stuff would take another $10 or so off the savings and that combined with the risk makes it less of a score..

If you're buying a mobo, and need all the cables, your best bet would be to find a retail mobo that fits your needs and your budget. As far as buying refurb from newegg, it's a hit or miss affair. I think they only back the refurbs for a few weeks, so if you want to send it back, you should read the fine print. I bought a refurbed ATI video card from them and have had no problems with it. Also, refurb items are still fully covered by manufacturer's warranties, so just make sure if you get something refurb, you buy it from a known and respected manufacturer. One time I bought an FIC video card, and I couldn't send it in to get repaired, because they stopped making video cards, so that is something to keep in mind...

Refurbs are great for other stuff that have no accessories, like harddrives, ram, & video cards if you don't need the dvi-vga adapter, I haven't had any problems so far with any refurbs of them - and saved many $$ along the way.

But stuff where the accessories are needed like motherboards, it's not worth buying refurbs in most cases.

I've bought several Newegg refurb mobos and none of them came with any accys - but I was able to talk Asus out of some I/O shields, download the manuals and get any cables I needed cheap. They all worked just fine and I haven't heard any complaints from the current owners of them either.
