Sounds like the entire IT department should be fired.
This is why companies outsource.

We just had a place get hit by this newer form of cryptolocker, they also have endpoint. Had to restore from backup, which wasn't bad seeing as it's done every hour. But still took some time.
To those saying IT should be fired, do you actually work in IT? Like at all? All it takes is write access to a share, and it doesn't require admin credentials. You can block appdata, like we've done for most of our customers, but some have old programs that unless you feel like reverse engineering and reprogramming them require functional App Data. The new viruses come out far faster than IP blocking and antivirus will keep up with. That's why you have good backups.
Indeed. after some research it was obvious that id get the blame, all the stress, all the working after hours until this is resolved with zippo benefit to my bottom line or self respect.
Two weeks ago someone stole a laptop while I was out sick. I went through a monumental amount of work tracking the laptop down and didon't get a thank you, I was put on probation for 90 days with a threat of termination of it happens again. For someone else stealing a laptop
UPDATE
Now this is fun. Walked in today to our file server being down. Turns out, even with norton up to date, we got hit with ransomware that encrytped all files on our server. I'm guessing 8+ hours to recovery, if at all...
I'm guessing now's the day to walk..

First thought: how the hell is this a good time to walk out.
A few posts later and this one, holy crap, I can't believe you stayed. Good luck on the next career/job!
Don't work in IT myself, but sounds like shit happens everywhere.
Well, I don't have to deal with the shit show and the blame. Yeah, I stayed a year too long as is.
I'd love to see their faces now, lol!
Please keep us posted. You just walked out, right? Did you tell them you quit?
Yep, after he reemed me for "letting the firewall fail" I left my password document on my chair, grabbed my bag and walked. I don't care about burning a bridge there, they have a 1 star rating on an employer review board
BWAHAHAHAHAHA! He is probably searching the halls for you to "fix" the files. LOL!
Yep. Dozen texts so far
Please tell me they're begging you to come back and trying to suck up.
Since he didn't actually resign, at this point they are probably threatening to fire him.

Probably, his only tactic is threats and intimidation
Congrats man. I honestly can't believe you put up with that shit for so long.
One question though - why change career paths? Maybe I missed it in the thread. IT can and is a great career if you don't work for flaming bags of dicks. There are tons of jobs out there and some you can do from home.
Why not just chill for a bit and find another IT gig?
