I would strongly reccomend against large RAID0 volumes. I, myself would be overjoyed is someone would make a $50 10GB 15000RPM low access drive. RAID0 is not for storeing all your data. Its foryour OS, its applications and large files you are working on. Music etc need not apply.

.wav files can be very large aeternitas. Has anyone ever witness a 4 Raid 0 array before? A long time ago I think CPU mag built one.....of course I couldn't find the mag for the life of me.

.wav is a container. A large audio file isnt going to get too much use out of RAID0. There is enough bandwidth in one drive to handle audio. A 4 drive RAID0 is best used with smaller drives. 120GB max. Depending on the controller and the drives, top speed and low speed are usually with'n 10MBps in excess of 100MBps.

cool...thanks....I think I know what your saying. The bottle neck then becomes the controller, makes sense.

Another  for building a RAID 0 Array (for the right reasons ofcourse). Let me put my .02c in before all you anti-raid 0 nazis chime in.

First and foremost, I've been using RAID 0 arrays in my video editing systems for years now, and in my opinion it's worth every penny in terms of speed and performance. I'm a gamer too, and have also noticed that certian game maps load much, much, much faster on my video editing systems than non-RAID systems - so take that into account.

As for all you paranoid users out there screaming that your data is 2x likely to fail, start living life and enjoying a RAID 0 array. Everybody regardless of your hard drive configuration should have a fool-proof backup system in place, so guess it doesn't matter then...right?

There are way too many threads in the last few months babbling about how RAID 0 is going to ruin your life, destroy your data & is not worth it. I say go for it, atleast if you do and don't like it - you can post about it with some experience to back you up unlike many people posting about it that haven't even tried it.

If you goth the cash for a decent hardware controller and 4 fast drives, RAID5 has a good balance for data security and speed.

Noise, heat, and price/performance is horrendous. In a word NOFUGGINWAY. (although raid 1 has some attraction)

Want to blow cash, get a real video card or montior, you'll see real benefit there you can appreciate every day.

complaints about hard drive heat in the same thread suggesting a 'real' video card. come up now. a moden GPU puts out tons more heat than any hard drive.

Want to spend cash one something that makes you happy? Take you wife out to dinner.

I just finished installing my 4 hard drives in my Lian Li PC-V1000. I have the drives staggerd and a 120mm fan is blowing across them. I also just finished installing a NV Silencer 5 on my eVGA 6800 GT in hopes to get it over 1050/390 that I had in my other system I removed it from. It went up to 89c like that with the stock HS. That was after I ran three straight runs of 3Dmark 05 with full eye candy. I'm thinking and hoping I have cooled it down abit with my new set up. I love benchie's. Now my Raid set up I still quander over.....a 2 x 2 or all 4 for the experience. Gonna overclock my chester 3000 so I'm still leary on possibly junking the array (or arrays).

RAID isnt about data security. Its about uptime.

$250 for a 4 drive array isnt so bad. Slap a fan infront of the drives and they run cool. Been do'n it for 2 drives for years. They arnt even warm.

RAID with Hot-Swap is about uptime

I'd say a RAID-5 with drives with active cooling is more about data security. Most active HDD coolers on the market require you to at least pull the side off. Which is a pain in the ass.

VideoQuasar, seeing that you're going to overclock, the possibility of 4 hd in RAID 0 won't be possible since S-ATA ports 1 and 2 aren't locked on the MSI K8N Neo2.

I'm probably too late to warn you but it's worth a try. I stumbled onto this thread cuz I was contemplating whether to continue running RAID 0 or not.
