Sorry, I know this is off topic, but..

900NF owners: Do any of you use that MouScreen utility that requires the monitor's USB connector to be plugged into a USB port on the PC..? From what I read in the manual, that's how it's suppose to be connected and MouScreen somehow allows you to control "something" (fill in the blanks for me) on the monitor.. Thanks for any info..

i've used both 950p and 955df.
and i have to say... 955df is definately worth your money.

if your wallet can hold more... it's another story.
but at that price range...
go with 955df.

I have had a 700NF since last May and I recently bought a 753DF. I recommend both. Samsung makes great monitors.

FYI: SyncMaster 950p has been discontinued a couple months ago. For low cost, check out SyncMaster 950b or check out 955DF.

I just picked one up a couple days ago at Staples in Canada. It had better specs than the 950b or 955DF, and much better price

BTW, you're tech support people in Canada aren't too good about returning mail. I'm generally happy other than that. :frown:

Sorry I was referring to US Market... We run separate operation between US and Canada (unlike Viewsonic or other companies)... The product was discontinued in the US but non-US folks can probably still find the product.

Thanks for your comment on the email CS... I will pass that on to the Canadian folks.

You'll like it. (Just make sure you don't get one that's been through a game of catch at the UPS/FedEx sorting center :disgust: )

<< Samsung is the only reason I would go with a LCD >>

My wife has a Samsung 15" LCD. Nice, though its a bit brighter on the bottom than the top. I would have gone with that, except LCDs aren't very good for movies or games. I'm waiting for the 17" LCDs to get a bit cheaper and faster.

I've owned 3 955DF monitors.
2 were RMAed for color banding (vertical 2" green) problems.
I also encountered the contrast and brightness glitches.
One I kept for 4 months until I could find a Hot Deal on a Sony G400.
I had them side by side for a month, Sony and Samsung...
No comparison. IMO
I'm glad you have had better luck than me.

<< I own a 950p as well, although I've only had it for a few months. I like it a lot, but I do have a few small complaints (may just be my particular monitor):

1: Geometry is way off when you get to the edges of the screen; to the point where it can't be completely "adjusted away". The top bows down, the right side curves in slightly from top to bottom, and the very bottom of the picture isn't quite level. That said, the rest of the picture seems fine.

2: I've noticed the brightness/contrast thing myself, although mine seems to be the opposite: I've got the brightness cranked all the way down, and the contrast set somewhere in the middle. On top of that, I have to push the brightness down further from within my video card controls - I swear, you could use this thing for a spotlight! That makes it good for office work and web surfing, but I have to go back into the vc controls to bring the brightness back to normal if I want to play any games. Otherwise everything is almost black.

3. Unless the focus is set just right, I get these weirdo-looking bands across the screen - looks like the colorbanding you'd see when you play a game in 16bit, except that the bands aren't straight, they form waves across the screen.

When all is said and done, I guess I should've sent it back for a replacement when I saw all of this stuff. I cured everything but the geometry though, and I do like it. Besides, how much can you expect for $160? (got it through a dell deal over the summer)

I don't like it for the same reasons NTB listed...but I paid $300, not including the $50 MIB, that I waited ~3-4 months for. My roommates 900NF on the other hand...that's a NICE monitor.

Just thought I'd put my two cents in here... I just got done shopping for a new 19", (took me three weeks). I was going to go with the Samsung 900NF, but unfortunately both places I was going to order from were out of stock, and said they would be for at least a week or so. Normally that'd be fine, but my other monitor (no-name 17") finally died on me, so I didn't really have a choice. Was going to settle for the 955df, but THANK GOD I didn't. After reading all the reviews and actually seeing a couple in action at Best Buy/CompUSA, I wouldn't give ya a buck and a half for one. They're horrible! I finally ended up getting a ViewSonic a90F for $299 at Best Buy. (A90F, NOT A90) I have to say, I'm extremely impressed with the quality of this monitor. After reading the reviews on the A90, I was WAY scared of this one, but I had to buy SOMETHING. However, my fears were unfounded. The color quality, sharpness, refresh rates, everything are more than adequate for the graphic design work I do. And the ViewSonic "Colorific" color matching software assures what I see on screen is what will actually print. Not sure if it'll help, but it's at least another option to look at. And whatever you do, save yourself the heartache... stay away from the 955df.
