I salute those of you who voted "yes" on Prop71 with MY middle finger for raising my taxes and basically making Joe Taxpayer cover the R&D costs for companies who will turn around, screw us over, and charge us a fortune for their product in the long run. Great job California

Prop 71 is a bond measure that everyone pays and benefits equally. Prop 63 is legalized robbery.

Well, I voted agaist stem cell research (why is a State funding medical research to help drug companies in an UNPROVEN area of science?).

I voted for the mental health prop (funded by the rich). Hopefully they'll be able to do something about the crazy homeless in SF and other places.

I also voted to make walmart pay for health insurance, but that lost.

As a medical professinal, I don't necessarily disagree with the aim of this measure. It is the target that I have a problem with. Why not tax everybody, if not equally, then on a progressive scale. I bet you the measure wouldn't have passed if everyone has to pay.

I haven't read the proposition. Can you summarize how the average taxpayer will reap the benefits of research instead of the patents ultimately derived from this research just going to whichever company coffer?

I voted no on both. 71 was too expensive, and it was unfair to have so many people voting on 63 who wouldn't be affected by it.

That said, if youre making $1,000,000 a year, you can probably afford a 1% tax. I don't think it's as big a deal as some people are making of it.

As I have said, I don't necessarily disagree with the aim of the measure. It's the method and the target that I have problems with. Whether it's 1% or 10% is irrelevant. Selective taxation of a certain percentage of the population by the masses who pride themselves as moral and just is nothing more than demonstrated jealousy.

I know that we are a capitalistic society and everyone deserves every dime that they earn. However, pure capitalism without charity does not foster a healthy social system because mentally ill people need more attention than they're given. I feel that a 1% tax on people earning over $1MM in income is worth having less people in jails/shelters for simply being mentally ill and into programs that can help them learn and cope with their disability.

Voted yes on stem cell research. Even if Bush doesn't want to give money to this field of research, we gotta take things in our own hands and raise the money ourselves.
