Why would you not carry ANY cash around? I am assuming this demographic mainly consists of people who live in big cities. I live in a rather small city (go red raiders!) and I run into estblishments all the time where cash would just be easier. How about not having to wait for the card to be returned when eating at a restaurant. What about fast food? What about wanting a drink from the store. What about trying to get easy service at the bar without fumbling around with credit cards?

or is this just me?

WTF are you talking about? How hard is it to pull out a card and swipe it or have the cashier swipe it?

I have direct deposit for my pay.
The *only* time I can think of in the past month when I actually needed cash was
1. When I needed a quarter for the shopping cart at Aldi's. (I actually have a quarter that I keep in the car just for Aldis)
2. The occasional bottle of soda/pop from the vending machine at work.

That's it.

when I get cash, it's a chunk from 40-100 usually...I'll go through all of it before I go back to the bank again. And I seldomly need cash for anything, so I don't even think about it.

I keep some quarters in my car (mostly for toll roads if I happen to drive down to Houston), and maybe a few $1 bills in my wallet if I want to use a vending machine, but I haven't really used cash for much else in a long time.

plastic rules
it's faster than cash, and there's no annoying jingling
no car filled with pennies and nickels (falling into the seat, onto the floor)

I don't have to worry about some minimum wage worker jipping me when i break a $20 for a cup of coffee

as for feeling the need to tell everyone..............................who started this thread??

cash is really hard to keep track of, esp when it down to coins.

with cc, everything consolidates to 1 statement that lists exactly how much I spend for each purchase down to penny.

Uh...what about waiting for change? Even if you have the right amount and don't need change, it's nice to relax a little after eating.
What about fast food?
They take plastic.

Start a tab, it's easier than fumbling around with cash every time you get a drink (honestly, this one was just dumb, using cash at a bar is really a pain).
or is this just me?
Yep, just you.

how is cash harder?

How could you even compare leaving money for ticket+tip and walking off to paying with a credit card. What about when the place has to dialup to verify ur card. and print it out. AND you have to sign it.

Whats my total? 7.62 I hand them 8 bucks. put my wallet UP. await my change, put it in my pocket, then out it in the console of my car or keep it in a jar here.

Cash is what drives america, not credit cards. What about Big E's BBQ in the Depot district who doesn't even have a menu and is only open when the bars close. Man his bbq is good. Im getting off on a tangent.

What happens when your total is $7.62 and all you have are twenties?

because waiting the 2 minutes it takes for the waiter/ess to go swipe the card and come back to the table is just way too time consuming?? most cc these days give you points of some kind that you can redeem for cash back or other fun things. my check is also direct deposited and i hate going to the bank only to get stuck behind some idiot in line who picks today to do all of his banking for the entire year. i only get cash out when i go to the bars, it makes things easier especially when you jump from place to place.

Ok this is my 2 main reasons.

1) If I am hassled by a street bum for some money instead of lieing I can say all i carry is a card.

2) If I am hassled by a would be thief psoing as said street bum I an say all i carry is card and they don't even bother with me because 3 minutes from when thhey take my cards they are cancelled.

It's mostly for a crime reasons I don't carry cash.

plastic is like an interest free loan for a month. all i need to do is go online and transfer funds once a month instead of making 500 trips to the ATM. and if i get mugged, the robber gets jack sh!t because my cards are one phone call away from being useless. not to mention many ATM's charge sizable fees. i usually carry some cash just in case, but i make 95% of my transactions with plastic.

I prefer cash sometimes... just feel downright foolish using a credit card at a convenience store for a pack of smokes or a drink. I do use my check card a lot though for things like paying for gas at the pump, restaurants, etc. For the last year though I've not put anything on credit card, trying to pay my plastic off this year not add more to them =/

*edit* btw once my debt is gone I dont think I'll ever use credit cards again

I'm ok with credit cards. I just use them as a check card. Every paycheck I send my fun money off to the credit card and let my self only spend that much. That way i am building good credit history and getting fraud protection as well.

My wife was prone to carry no cash.

I said to her, "What are you going to do when someone stops by the side of the road and pushes you out of a snowbank? Give them a credit card?"
