The topic says it all...Any ideas if I should start looking for a new proc?
See, I did something really stupid. In trouble shooting my other PC, while swapping parts back and forth, I forgot to plug the HSF back in on my backup system. I knew it sounded far too quiet but I did not give it a second thought. It ran like this for at least 24-48 hours...probably even more. It just so happened that I was checked some settings in Sandra when I noticed the CPU temp was at 80C. I figured it might be an error but I booted into the BIOS to check....just to be sure. The BIOS confirmed it. I pulled off the cover and noticed the HSF was not spinning...Oops...
The kicker is...the system has been running fine, with no problems at all. With the fan re-enabled, I'm now running comfortable around 30-40C. However, I am wondering if I should start looking for a replacement proc. Going to run Prime95 for a few hours when I go out today....
Moral of the story....if it sounds too quiet...there's probably a reason...
