There are a couple of times when you can see his face (mask destroyed in first movie, and removed mask in the second), he does look more confident at those shots

That's what I mean. As Spiderman in the comics, he's funny, but he's still the same little dork WITH the Spiderman costume IMO. And I wouldn't call "his confidence thru the roof" as Spiderman either.
