So now that the UK is out of the EU, can you still use the Euro in the UK? Or is that something completely different?

Well, the EU just got a lot less relevant. Serves them right, should have let the UK maintain their own migration policy. The EU got greedy and Merkel has left a shitty legacy behind.

I threw together a spreadsheet based on the Telegraph's regional numbers and population distribution by region. Totally assuming consistent voter turnout in each region, vote distribution holds, and other stuff.

Ya, looks like Leave has it in the bag.

If you're curious, the Region of London has a population of ~8.2 million, England has 53 million. Every region outside London is in favor of Leave.

Population of Wales is 3.0 million, Scotland is 5.3 million, and Northern Ireland is 1.8 million -- all Google/Wikipedia so lulz on that.

Edit: Failed on UK populations other than England.

I cannot fricking believe this. This is the same stupidity where people choose irrational fears (refugees) over common sense. NOTHING positive will arise from this for the UK and EU. NOTHING. AT ALL. Except that the rural idiots will have a "nice fuzzy feeling" based on irrational fears. Refugees? Immigrants? Are you fucking kidding me? You choose Brexit mainly because of some immigrants? The rest what this means doesn't count?

This will be a major economical disaster, MOSTLY for the UK.

And yes...if this is a sign what is to come in the US...

Unbelievable the stupidity of people...

EU needs to go back to the drawing board.
It was really stupid for the UK to vote to leave. The EU has problems, but at least the UK to could work to fix them from the inside. From the outside, they'll have almost no say in how EU policies are set.

From everything I have heard about it, this is a stupid move to make. Irrationality fueled by Nationalism wins the day. It's not the end of Britain, but it could take them decades to recover from the fallout.

It's interesting that you link The Daily Mail, considering that they've made it quite the habit to paint Europe in a bad light and have been a leading media outlet in the leave campaign.

But the biggest broadsheet (The Telegraph), the biggest midmarket paper (The Daily Mail) and the biggest tabloid (The Sun) have thrown themselves shamelessly behind Brexit.

They have peddled the myths that Britain pays 350 million pounds a week (about $500 million) to the European Union; that millions of Turks will invade Britain because Turkey is about to be offered European Union membership; that immigrants are destroying our social services; and that post-Brexit, Britain will enjoy continued access to Europe’s single market without automatically allowing in European Union workers.

I dunno. This is what is going on in Paris. MOB RULE:

Now you know why EU is going away. The social experiment was a failure.

Luckily Britain is an island. Let the continentals deal with their idiocy now.

I love how people are saying that getting a passport and lack of "free movement" is the #1 reason to stay. Really?

And a lack of "free trade"? You think the EU is going to stop trading with the UK because of Brexit?

And Scotland joining the EU? They are going to have so many problems to deal with by creating an entirely new 1st world country with a 1st world infrastructure that they won't be admitted for a while and even then they're going to actually want to join the Euro shit-show.

I hope none of you Brits were hoping to go on holiday on the Continent or in the States, because as of right now, you can't afford it.

You think Europe needs DM to paint in a bad light?

The German centric euro has screwed the peripherals by suppressing what the deutsche mark would normally be valued at due to trade imbalances, allowing significant capital inflows through debt.

And this pretty much summarizes the Remain campaign. Fear. The Remain focused on confusing people, and bullying them (Osborne's punitive budget), because they know that scared people are more likely to vote for the status quo.

edit: Sure the Leave campaign has run a pretty lowest common denominator fear-mongering campaign but the only way to cut through the noise is to have a clear, simple message you can put forth loudly. The leave campaign has also by and large steered clear of ad hominem attacks, name calling ("Racist!" "Bigot!") and the relentless social signalling of the Remain campaign ("I'm so not racist, look how sorry I am for these people drowning!") which always struck me as an intellectually dishonest way to try to win an argument without finding an answer.

Concerning EU problems...

Last I checked, Italy has a youth unemployment rate of 35%, Spain is 45%. Greece is using bailout loans to make payments on previous bailout loans. Italy has banks that have substantial quantities of non-performing loans. More than a few European bank stocks have been hemorrhaging money over the past year -- look up Deutsche Bank. UK has a massive housing bubble, housing bubbles crashed Spain and Ireland in 2008 and they're still not 100% solved. European Central Bank is running negative interest rates.

I get the great dream that is unity and the EU, but the problems above just aren't yelling out "functional system" to me.

Germany and the other Eastern European countries (e.g. Poland) are probably doing well though.
